closing bid: $2.99
I'll bid up to $15 for a Mariner game. $25 if Dan dresses in drag.
priceless is bitching about not enough respect for the player's when it's the owners no one likes.
Dominic is going to love this...
This could be the first Stangercrombie thing I'll ever bid on.
Maybe if there's a stipulation that Mr. Alexie keep his insipid basketball-as-poetry analogies to himself. Oh, and also if he promises not to cry about the fact that most of Seattle doesn't care if the Sonics stay or go. No crying, no waxing poetic. The whole evening. Hmm. $1.99, eh?
I'll bid $100 dollars if Dan Savage promises to suck off Earl Watson (for those of you who don't follow the Sonics he's the backup guard who complains he doesn't get enough playing time) if he scores more points than Luke Ridnour at said game.
Who knows it might be just the incentive Watson needs.
For those of you readying the release your tirades on corporate greed for the day the Sonics leave (and, based on the comments above, some of you can't wait), save it.
The Sonics aren't going anywhere. Well, they might, but they're really more of a back-up plan.
For those of you worried fans out there, think about it. The Hornets are already playing games in OK City. New Orleans, while steadily climbing its way out of the open sewers it calls streets (build a major city below sea level, surrounded on all sides by water? Really? You think that's a good idea?), cannot support an NBA franchise in the long-term. The 8 games of an NFL regular season, sure, but not 41 regular season NBA games + preseason (which is the same price for a seat - ridiculous) + the 2nd longest playoffs in professional sports, after hockey (maybe the 3rd if you count cricket, but really...does anyone count cricket?). Now, factor in the golden goose of the modern NBA arena - the luxury box - how many companies in New Orleans do you think are prioritizing these decadences over...say...oh, I don't know...rebuilding offices and warehouses? Plus, which team would be easier to sell to the OK City fans - a known commodity with which they're already familiar, or a bunch of coffee drinking pussies from grunge-land?
If the Sonics do go, it ain't gonna be to OK City. And, even if they do, Allen will move the Blazers to Seattle anyway. In the modern era of professional sports, is there a more interesting team than the Jail-Blazers? No...no there isn't.
I love Sherman Sherman Alexie's writing, but still don't think Seattle owes the Sonics one cent.
I know this is for a good cause and I hope it raises some serious scratch, but I'd rather go fishing with Mr. Alexie than attend a Sonics game.
Whoops on the double Sherman up there, and the other typos I'm not noticing I'm sure.
