Slog - Comments on All My Transgender Children

Admittedly, I'm not really up on the latest trends among soap opera writers, but having the lesbian daughter of the iconic Erica Kane make out with a male-to-female transsexual seems pretty progressive. Granted, said pre-op tranny is a very stereotypical, "flamboyant rock star" bestowed with the freakish name of "Zarf," but the producers actually brought in consultants from GLAAD. The story arc begins on Thursday and I predict plenty of angry housewives across the Red states will be letting networks know their thoughts. Bravo, AMC! Incidentally, this Zarf character adores Mike Patton and showed up in this widely circulated and...

According to that link, the lesbian daughter is not making out with a pre-op transsexual, but rather a pre-transition transsexual. There's quite a big difference between the two.

Actually, it sounds like that part is up in the air:

"It's not clear, Carruthers said, whether "All My Children" will stick with the Zarf character through any surgery; one suspects the reaction of the soap's audience to the story will have a lot to do with it."

Oh, oh! Who else bets (hopes, prays) that the character will be modeled on the flamboyant tranny (hermaphrodite?) 'Z-man'fron 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'? And, of course, Zarf would have to end up going batshit crazy over a conflicted sexuality and killing everybody.
That's seems a little more soap opera progressive than actually developing a cohesive transgendered character...

You're ditchin the youtube crap for the Flipper gig this week Hannah right? I'll be there as close to front and center as possible (the ONLY way to experience a punk show). For the most part guys nowadays respect tough women like us. I hope they do Brainwash first, followed by Talk's Cheap. Maybe we can smoke out together, if not that's cool too.

Huh. All of the trannies I've met are either incredibly flamboyant or as manly and craggy as Walter Mathau. Given a choice of one of these types representing trannies on television, I think most would have to argue for flamboyance.
