Perhaps, but before celebrating too much, remember that this will make the Democratic Party even more conservative.

As DKos readers know, Sebelius is a total political rockstar - she's spent the last few years convincing repubs all over her state that they should really be dems - names people know. Looks like it worked. We'll see what happens in a couple weeks.

What is the difference between Carl Romanelli's campaign being funded by Republican interests and the Democratic party being occupied by Republicans looking to be elected?

Its not like these politicians are suddenly progressive (however that might be defined depending on which blog is speaking).

They are still going to receive financial support from the same forces that put Romanelli on the ballot. The wealthy interests that need representation in DC will work the system to their advantage.

Shuffle the cards anyway you want - it's all going to come up stacked against us until people work outside the system and stop believing the propaganda promoted by the DLC.

Which administration was it that first started the funding and promotion of abstinence only education?

Hint: it was in 1996.

"The welfare reform legislation signed into law by President Clinton in August of 1996 represents—to date—the broadest attack on the provision of comprehensive sexuality education to young people in the United States"

The best thing happening in Kansasis that wingnut-extraordinaire state Attorney General Phill Kline -- the guy who wants to rifle through Planned Parenthood medical records looking for abortions to declare to be murders -- is about to get his ass handed to him in his re-election campaign.

His opponent (soon to be replacement) is Johnson County DA Paul Morrison. Yes, he's another of those Republican-turned-Democrats. If it takes "real" Republicans coming to their senses and seeing the depths to which the monstrous progeny of the reactionary fundies, the neocons, and the antigovernment anarchists have taken their former party, I'm just fine with it. Sending Kline slithering back into whatever stinkhole he emerged from is well worth it.
