Was He Drunk on the House Floor Too?

posted by on October 3 at 12:49 PM

It just keeps getting better: Foley interrupted House floor vote to have Internet sex with teenage page. (He offered the teenage boy alcohol, too: “We may need to drink at my house so we don’t get busted.”)

i may have missed this somewhere...how are they getting these message transcripts? did the pages save them.

don't get me wrong...i'm loving this turn of events. i just imagine it's something the Rs could point to to discredit the pages.

The former pages gave them to ABC news.

Goes to show, never put a flirt in writing... you never know where it will end up. And, wow, Foley is such an Old Man... doesn't he know how incredible easy it is to save these sorts of things?

Overall, I would have been more surprised if a 16 year old boy did not save these... even just for the skeezy "hey, dudes, look at me lead this troll/fag/homo/congressman on" factor. 16 year old boys love to lead on old trolls, its kind of a sport. At least they did back in my high school days. But we had to go up to Broadway to engage in such entertainment (hey, we were kids and saw no harm in it. Its not like respect for a 50 year old sleezy bag ever entered our 16-year-old-minds, even with the friends who took their money for a "date").

if you work in govt, you should never put anything in writing.

but...had the pages saved them for all of that time? i'm not really of the IM generation, but that surprises me. the few times i've IM'd, i would have never thought to save a message.

then again, ain't no politicians talkin all dirty to me while multi-tasking with a House vote.

A lot of IM programs automatically save all IM coorespondence (unless you turn that feature off) - so it is very conceivable that they'd have these records well after the fact.

count down 'til a former page comes forward with actual physical contact between Foley & teenager...

I'm waiting for verification of these IMs. Remember the doctored memo CBS showed? I think the revelation it was false actually helped the Repugnantcans in '04. Regardless of the authenticity of the IMs, Foley and (hopefully) Hastert and other GOP's are going to take it on the chin.

The likelihood of the IM's being authentic would seem to have been corroborated by the speed with which Congressman Foley resigned. Seeing as the GOP is so good at playing the smear game themselves, if they had any inkling they might be able to spin them as a fabrication, they probably would already have done so by now.

Instead, they're using the "blame the messenger" dodge, which indicates to mea at least, the IM's are authentic.
