Today’s TV News!

SAD (and a bit scary). The 8-year-old daughter of dead Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin is getting her own animal show. Says young Bindi Irwin, “I’m trying to get across the message that don’t be afraid of animals, they’re just put on this earth to help the environment and everything like that.” Funny, that’s what the stingray said.

SMELLY. The O.C. is finally getting its own fragrance. Yay! It’s been a dream of mine to smell just like Julie Cooper’s cootie.

INTERESTING. Does Battlestar Galactica support the Iraqi insurgency? What’s more, does Desperate Housewives support Kim Jong il?

HOTSY. Bravo’s TOP CHEF has given the boot to their former stick of dead wood, and has hired a new host. Who’s super hot. And married to Salman Rushdie?!?

I’m sorry… but I just can’t honor a marriage such as this. It’s time for a booty fatwa!

Salman Rushdie's wife leads a blessed life. Not only is she gorgeous, gainfully employed, and married to a most brilliant man, if he ever does her dirt she can whack him and collect a million dollars.

I don't know if anyone else is watching the show that Slate nicknamed "Battlestar Iraqtica," but you should be. The new season opened four months after the Cylons finally caught up with the humans and conquered them on the planet of New Caprica.

The humans are now living under the Cylon Occupation Authority, and the situation is desperate. Those suspected of conspiring against the COA are confined to indefinite detention. An insurgency is brewing and several humans have resorted to suicide bombings as revenge for the loved ones the Cylons have killed and as the only remaining method of rebelling against their new masters.

The Cylons are not one-note villains either, and several of them are sympathetic to the humans. Their goal is to bring their god's love to the humans, even if it means subduing them by force. They debate about how to win hearts and minds even as they torture people and plan public executions to deter would be insurgents. They even recruited a human police force, so as the humans police themselves, the Cylons can stand down. The most chilling scene in the season premiere occurred when the Cylons ordered the human police to conduct a nighttime raid and round up mostly innocent people to be interrogated, and they dragged panicked people from their homes as we watch first hand through cold, green night vision goggles. I almost threw up after that part -this show needs way more dramatic tension!

The producers claim that their model is not the Iraq war, but the parallels could not be clearer. They're simply showing the logical outcome of occupation and how it is doomed to be a miserable failure. The actors have all been stunning as they've had to ride a roller coaster of shifting loyalties and allegiances, not to mention some of the most shocking plot twists on TV. The show brings home, in a very intense and human way, the hell that our soldiers and the Iraqi people have to deal with every day. How could it be otherwise?
It’s amazing to think of the open lies the flow out of the Bush Administration and state of ignorance, gullibility and denial that most Americans live in.

Yeah, that Slate article and Jonas Goldberg's similar article published last week are both pieces of crap. The fact that pro-war people are offended by a TV show is pretty laughable... you get the sense that they are so sensitive to any kind of criticism that they blow any perceived slight out of proportion.

Oh, and Padme Lakshmi? She can't really talk or act worth a damn, and after watching her television show I don't really think that she'll be that much of an improvement over Mrs. Joel.

But still, she is *gorgeous*.
