The Saga Continues

posted by on October 5 at 10:57 AM

I thought the whole Dave Reichert global warming fiasco was over, but the P-I notes it today in its election-year profile of Reichert and Goldy keeps it going with a suggestion that Reichert’s people may have violated ethics rules in trying to clarify the Congressman’s position on global warming.

Uh-oh.

The P-I also goes to great lengths to perpetuate the lie that Reichert originally said that he believes global warming exists in the first place. That's NOT what he said; he said originally that he wasn't convinced global warming is happening at all.

For some reason, the P-I is cooperating fully in his campaign's (or, apparently, his congressional office's) careful insistence that the truth is the opposite of the truth. Why? It's one thing to be "fair", but fairness doesn't demand that you dutifully nod your head when they flat-out lie to you.

The problem with the PI is that Sheriff Reichert is still the hero for catching the Green River Killer. The world is a better place because of it, for sure. HOWEVER, that was then and now is, well, now. Those 15 minutes of fame expired 25 minutes ago. The PI is caught in the trap that Representative Riechert continues to play up the past glories of police work and lots of folks are only concerned with his police hero status. Not really interested at looking at his current job's performance. Also, to repubs, he is not a democrat, so, he can do no wrong. HA.

Didn't the P-I run a (great) series last year exposing corruption in the Sheriff's Dept under Reichart? So you can hardly claim that Reichart "can do no wrong" with them.

I wonder how they'll spin his lies and unethical behavior? Will they try to blame others instead?

Good point Flamingbanjo. Although they don't hold him accountable for saying he wasn't convinced global warming exists.

@Will: unethical behavior? Lies, perhaps. Dimwitted, sure. But I don't associate Reichert with unethical. He even returned Nancy Pelosi's shoe that she dropped while they were all fleeing the Capitol from a terrorist threat. - http://www.gonomad.com/readuponit/2005/05/shoes-make-high-drama.html - He could've kept it and been sportin' one pimpin' pump. He could've turned it into a GOP drinking gourd, or given it to some sex-starved Rep. as a mastabatory aid (in lieu of the mastabatory aides and pages). But no, he did the honest thing and he returned her shoe -- um, during a press conference.

This business of using office staff for campaign purposes isn't great, but I still think Reichert's problems mostly come under the heading "stupid", not "unethical". He's no Deenie Hastert.

DID he catch the Green River killer?

I don't think that's exactly how it went...

non-credit where no-credit is due...
