"The difference between the urban child and the suburban child"

I have a 12 yr old daughter who has grown up on Capitol Hill. She always finds it really amusing when kids from outside of the city come to visit her and act all shocked or giggly when they see same sex couple on the hill holding hands or kissing. She also doesn't get it when kids from other parts use "your gay" as an insult when arguing.

She seems a lot more mature and open minded than her suburban counterparts. She also has better taste in music. (in my humble opinion)

Don't you know, the sight of nudity, anywhere, can permanently warp a child? They must be protected utterly from all nudity or potential nudity until their Congressman shows them his willie in IM.

That is why children must be taught early that wearing the burkha is mandatory, at all times, for all sexes and ages. In fact, I think we should probably just blind them at birth so they never run the horrid risk of seeing an exposed tit.

Probably should cut off their hands too, while we're at it. Wouldn't want them to accidentally touch a tit either, because then they would have to go straight to Hell.

Why the censorship on Slog?

I've noticed some comments erased that were here this morning. Who is making the censorship decisions and what are you trying to prevent Slog readers from reading? Just curious.

Red State idiots won't allow their children to look at pornography or naked bodies. Yet they buy each child a dozen guns. This is exactly what's wrong with America. Thank goodness the Urban elite can make sure their children get to see provocative artworks.

P.S. Thanks for censoring the comments on Slog. Some people have opinions that don't deserve to be heard.

In Sweden the age of consent is fifteen. Adults can have sex with fifteen year olds. It's disgusting. Looking at naked paintings is one thing, but surely everyone agrees Sweden has gone to far. Seattle is liberal, but we're not immoral like those European perverts.

in sixth grade mr. hill took our biology class on an impromptu nature walk behind our school...a park of sorts. we saw a man a mocha colored velour sweater with his painters pants down around his ankles. he was fucking a hole in a spruce or perhaps a willow. mr. hill hurried us by the man, mentioning the frog to the man's immediate right.

I realize that picking on "Texas crap" and "Red State Idiots" is easy, but keep in mind that Texas has a large and diverse population. Let's look at the numbers, shall we?
2000 Tx population: 20.8 million (2nd largest pop in the country)
2000 WA population: 5.89 million (I know you guys are different. I've been to Eastern Washington and met first-hand the whackjob libratarians out there. Do I think everyone in WA is like that? No, because I've met more than 2 people in my life)

2004 Presidential election -
Washington - 1.5 million voted for Kerry (actually pretty close to the 1.3 that voted for Bush. But hey, BLUE STATE, you guys are so damn sophisticated).
Texas - 2.8 million people voted for Kerry (unfortunately 4.5 voted for Monkey Face). But it doesn't change the fact that more people in my state voted for Bush than yours. So maybe some of us aren't gun-toting Bible-thumping rednecks.

As for this particular case, I would like to point out that the principal approved this trip, 12 parents attended and did not complain, and a number of students and parents have come out in SUPPORT of this teacher. It takes very few people to stir up trouble and get noticed, but don't assume that the wingnuts speaking on tv speak for us all.

Texas liberals always seem very offended when someone portrays their state as backwards, sexually hysterical, viciously bigoted, and generally knuckle-dragging. But consider this: it is. And you choose to live there. And you could move to, say, New Mexico. If you're tired of people viewing all Texans as though they were like the majority of Texans, get the hell out of the state. Leaving Texas is the first step towards convincing anyone that, unlike most Texans, you're not an idiot.
