Well, it should be noted that Chicago is so much OLDER than me, and that most of her transit lines were laid by immigrants before the turn of the LAST century.

Your philosophy at the time was, if I recall, that if few of them died - well, there was plenty more where THAT came from.

And there were all those pesky protests and riots about how your transit operators screwed the workers, and all the land speculation and such. A few nosey papers whined about it forever. You were so mad!

I'm glad it's working out for you now dear. It took a LONG time, but you figured it out.

btw, how's MACY*S treating you? Shame you had to give up Fields - But then again, you tried to take all the credit for Frangos (a SEATTLE invention) so I guess karma's a payback.

I just can't WAIT until the Walnut Room is converted to a Starbuck's Cafe. That will be so CUTE!!!

ah, dear city of seattle

while most of our el lines were indeed laid out during the 19th C, we extended several of them during the 1980s, built a whole new one during the 1990s (to Midway Airport) and are looking for your tax dollars to help us build another circle line to connect them all. enjoy your gridlock.

Bill, Dear - your mother and I were having a conversation. It's rude to interrupt. (You must be from the south side.)

But you really should learn your history: The orange line was railroad right-of-way that was improved to create the line to Midway. It's a shame when children don't know their heritage....damn those public schools!

Oh, and yes - I promise to enjoy my gridlock if you promise to enjoy your winters. I can do something about my gridlock - really, I can! You'll just have to pray for some of that global warming.

Ta-Ta!

CoS:

I love Winter. And the existing RR rights of way to Midway had to be linked by tons of new concrete bridges and so it is a new El line, like it or not.

As for being from the Sout' Side, no way.

Though the girlfriend has moved there, so I am spending time there. . .
