Damn it. The trip to the sports bar not only didn't neutralize Chicago Sports Fan's mojo, but the bar itself was full of Bears fans (or were they Seattle 3rd quarter sell-outs?), and I had to spend the rest of the game keeping my football-hating girlfriend upright and courteous.
Now, I see only glory-ramen and eyebrow knitting as the finish to this terrible evening.
It went ahead and happened like we knew it could if we did what we shouldn't do.
Just checking -- does anyone else really give a shit?
no. it's all about the huskies these days, bitches.
I'm confused - are we still arguing over the Buju concert?
Which team has the most homophobes? The Seahawks have plenty including Hasselbeck.
Only I started liking football because the Seahawks were winning. They better shape up or its back to napping Sunday afternoons.
Maybe I'll give religion a try. Anyone know one that meets Sunday afternoon, serves alcohol, and isn't confusing. Free hookers would be a nice touch.
thanks Bears! Now my hapless RAMS are in a tie for first in the NFC West. And we acyually scored a few TDs yesterday!! OK, it was against the Lions, but they all count for 7!
There was a game? How nice! What teams played? Who made the most baskets? What did the organist play for the seventh inning stretch? I hope nobody had to go to the penalty box....
Who like's fat hairy bears anyway, even if they are from Chicago? I'm partial to twinks with tight asses. And those brown and orange jersey's? Attrocious!
We were beaten like red headed step kids. Plain and simple. Bitch slapped! Back hand! Walter Jones got thrown around like a rag doll. My grandmom could hit harder, and she is dead. The Seahawks actually did the impossible. They made a mediocre team look good, but bottom line: Im out 50 bucks.
Its all good, now we know who we have to take care of in the playoffs.
By the way, Soldier fields looks glossy, very different than the Sweetness days.
I gotta give it up to the damn Bears, that air game looked pretty damn good. These are different Bears than the 10 yards and a cloud of dust Bears that won it all.
Before you dis The Stranger's live sports coverage you ought to know that "Chicago Fan" is an important professor in Chicago and Dan Savage's brother.
Someone with a PH.D. in American Literature knows a little bit more about sports that you ever will. Nuf Said. I hope The Stranger covers more Corporate Sporting events, it's the best part of the paper.
William Savage (Ph.D. Northwestern University)
teaches courses in twentieth-century American literature, with special focus on the novel and the Lost and Beat Generations. His research focuses on theories of how people read narrative in relation to aesthetics (ideas about what is or is not good art) and ideology (politics as made manifest in literature). He also writes about the relationship between popular and elite culture in the context of evolving standards for what is thought to be great literature.
To all the sports haters out there, lighten up. Postings are normally slow on Sunday so last night's posts were all in good fun.
