New Strip Club Ads Hit Airwaves

posted by on October 9 at 12:53 PM

The anti-Referendum 1 (pro-strip club) campaign is running two ads on cable TV, starting today.

Here’s the first one, which makes the case that strip clubs are already strictly regulated:

And here’s the second, which compares the regulations to Prohibition-era restrictions on alcohol and says they will force police “to measure the distance between dancers and customers”:

According to campaign finance disclosure forms, the ads cost Seattle Citizens for Free Speech $136,000, leaving them hundreds of thousands of dollars still on hand. So far, the group has raised $822,000, the vast majority of it from Seattle’s two largest strip clubs.

Couldn't they have used some of that money to hire a decent graphic designer?

Word. And the weird thing is how aggressive they are being about distributing yard signs, at least on Capitol Hill. I had one put out in front of my house without anyone asking. Now, it so happens that I'm pro the strip club owners' side of this one, but I had a little tinge of fear, kind of a Sopranos' moment, when I pulled out the sign from the parking strip. (In fact I'm only today clear on what "yes" and "no" mean on this ballot issue.) What's that they say about politics and bedfellows?

I wish I had a sign. I called to get one and haven't gotten a call back.

What ever happened to the initiative to repeal the 4-foot rule? I thought that was going to be on the ballot a while back.

@Gal Pal: I trust the parking strip was your property. Tampering with political signs is technically illegal.
