And don't forget, the St. Louis Rams beat Green Bay to take sole posession of FIRST PLACE in the NFC West! Let the S talk begin!

Lots of reasons to love the Yankees getting knocked out. Among them: Laugh, laugh, laugh in the face of all you Safeco Yankees yay-yayers!

Now, the mad scramble has begun in the production room: What to do with all the edited, readied Yankees footage in the can for the '06 World Series-not-to-be, and who exactly are all those players on the Tigers? Shit, what story line shall the baseball media hype now?

Mike in Mo: Yeah, Brett "Butterfingers" Favre fucked the Seahawks. Retire already, dude.

You guys are pathetic.... why is it that Seattle loves to hate New York so much... you guys are a bunch of Pacific Northwest weenies!

I'm sorry, what was the Mariner's record this year?

New York (the City) blows this little passive-aggresive town out of the water in just about every category. Get over yourselves already... Accept Seattle for what it is (a city that at one time was fortunate enough to have some incredible nature surrounding it - but a city that has unfortunately pissed that away to development on the waterfront and suburbs out to the east) and quit trying to measure up to the big east coast cities.

It does not become you!

For the love of God, Yankee Clipper! We don't aspire to be like New York. Ewww. We just hate one of your baseball teams. And we're not exactly alone in that. Most of America does.

There are plenty of reasons to hate the Yankees besides some sort of city inferiority complex. Asshole fans like you top the list. The way the owner can outspend every team in the league is another. And there is the way they poach guys that have grown up in a small-market organization and wisk them off to NYC when they finally reach their potential.

I'm sorry you're so bitter that your team, despite having the best talent money can buy, got knocked out of the playoffs. There's always next year.

Clippa -- the New York T.O.'s are out already, so deal. I feel for ya -- overspending on something that doesn't work sucks. It's absolutely unacceptable in fact, and probably Torre's fault, right? Just another ape in front of the obelisk.

Grab a slice and turn your reversible Yankees/Mets hat inside out. The Mets are a savvy back up plan for the Awesomist City. Hire the cat that did that. Silver lining: at least it wasn't the Sox that did it to you this year.

Ahh Lark Hawk...

Deep down you aspire to be big city. C'mon, owning up to that is the first step on the road to living a rewarding and hate-free life.

peace out.

You might recognize one of those Tiger players: Carlos Guillen, one of the game's great shortstops (a better player overall than Derek Jeter, for instance). He used to play for us until we gave him away for some popcorn, a six-pack of beer and some cell phone minutes.

I predicted a Subway Series, and then the Tigers-Yankees series turned completely upside down.

I'll stand by the Mets making the World Series: the Cards had an easy out in the Padres, but they will not be so lucky with the powerhouse Mets lineup, and even without Pedro, they've got a solid pitching staff. The Cards have Chris Carpenter and a bunch of stiffs bad enough to pitch for the Mariners, while their lineup is so thin and banged up that former Mariner reject Scott Spiezio is now starting at 3B.

As for the Tigers-A's... as much as I'd like to jump on the Tigers bandwagon, the Yankees showed unusually bad discipline and resolve at the plate and their pitching was far, far overrated. The A's aren't a great hitting team but they are very disciplined at working the count to draw walks and good pitches to hit. Kenny Rogers and Jeremy Bonderman won't have guys hacking at bad pitches this series. Plus opposing team's offenses tend to die in Oakland's McAfee Coliseum. OAKLAND IS KRYPTONITE.

A's-Mets World Series.

Brad and Co:

The Bears aren't just scary-good. As one bartender pal put it yesterday, "They're so good they're boring."

Next week, we feast on the Cardinals.

Bill... we see shades of '85 every 3-4 years from Da Bears... they go 13-3 and then mysteriously drop a divisional playoff game and are gone.

Gomez:

Actually, the 13-3 season was nothing like '85--they won three games in overtime, lots of close games. Same thing last year. And both years they got punked at home in the conference semifinals.

The resonance this year with '85 is both a killer D (only a fumble in garbage time let the Bills score at all) and a high-scoring offense. Our last two playoff teams had great Ds, but no offense.

Right now, we're ranked first in the league in points scored and first in fewest points allowed. Tough combo.
