Meet “Dr. Paul,” Hastert’s Spiritual Go-To Guy

posted by on October 11 at 13:14 PM

Here are a few salient details about “Dr.” R.K. Paul, the nutty Houston evangelist who met with House Speaker Dennis Hastert to implore the disgraced Republican to resign.

• He said voters should oust Republicans because their foreign policy is delaying the Second Coming.

• He served as spiritual advisor to dictators and mass murderers, including Liberia’s Charles Taylor, Yugoslavia’s Slobodan Milosevic, and Saddam Hussein.

• He claimed another minister’s leper colony as his own, using images from the colony to raise money for his organization.

• He abandoned an 11-year-old girl in Washington, D.C., after she became ill on a fund-raising trip to Little Rock.

• He claims to have convinced Hastert, through prayer, to resign.

• He once fled India after his companions were arrested for causing riots, abandoning them in prison.

• He lost his accreditation from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability because he could not substantiate claims about his organization’s finances.

Hastert has since claimed the evangelist “duped” him into letting Paul into the house speaker’s Plano home; Paul himself, however, called that claim “ridiculous,” adding that Hastert had “welcomed” Paul into his home.

It's fascinating that Hastert - widely believed to be a Tom DeLay lapdog - who represents Illinois in the House, has a home in Plano, Texas (which, if I'm not mistaken, is in DeLay's district).

In one of the pictures, Hastert has a "why the fuck am I talking to this nutjob?" look on his face. Probably one of his handlers trying to appease the "moral majority".

@ Ryan:

you are mistaken.

DeLay's district is in the suburbs outside Houston, appx 5 hours southeast of Plano.

Plano, originally a suburb of Dallas, which has now blossomed into its own disgusting McMansion infested city, is where all the preppies died of black tar heroin deaths in the 1990s. google it, its very interesting.

likely hastert has a house there b/c they're very GOP friendly, you can buy a 5000sq ft house for $400k, and there are more SUVs than you can shake a stick at.

and don't forget the black tar heroin.

I am no fan of Hastert or his sick cronies, but I have to feel some sympathy for him: every nut job is going to claim they were "invited" in to have a "conversation" aren't they?

I think only of the times I've had Jehovah's Witness at my door or LaRouchies in my face. They always think it's a "conversation" don't they?

I was just thinking that after the press conference IN FRONT OF A GRAVE YARD, that Hastert couldn't possibly be any more inept in handling this scandal. But Hastert proved me wrong. He can indeed be even more inept.

Nut Phobe, sure, I've had Moonies and LaRouchbags knock on my door too. But I'm not the Speaker of the House, third in line to the President. Hastert does NOT have meetings with random strangers knocking on his door. Somebody on his staff cleared this meeting, and thought it was a good idea.

If Bush and Cheney died in a plane crash, this man would be our president. Just something to think about...

Are you sure he's teaching him Ethics?

I thought it was Eugenics ...

What this says is, if you are a nutjob and want to talk to a congressman, you need to put down the AK-47 and the camoflage clothes, and get yourself an evangelical cover. Evangelicals right now can just walk in ANYWHERE and get serviced. Remember "you ain't gonna make it with pictures of Chairman Mao"? You need a good cover story.
