Slog - Comments on 24 Little Hours

What a difference a day makes... Sunday the Seattle Times endorsed Mike! McGavick, the Republican running against Dem incumbent Maria Cantwell. McGavick is, as Josh pointed out yesterday, for everything the Seattle Times is against and against everything the Seattle Times is for. But McGavick is for repealing the dreaded estate tax, which has been playing White Whale to Frank Blethen's Ahab for more than a decade now. Today the Seattle Times endorsed Dem challenger Rodney Tom over incumbent state senator Luke Esser. Why? Because Tom is pro-stem cell research, pro-choice, and pro-gay rights, positions the Seattle Times' ed board...

Comment by Will in Seattle

Dudes, let's stop pretending. The Editorial Board had nothing to do with the endorsement on the Senate. That was all a certain owner's choice.

They serve at his pleasure and endorse as he dictates. They may not admit it in public, but that's their mandate.

Ask Santorum, he'll tell you about their mandate.

Comment by Andrew

It’s the most blatantly corrupt Congress in history, guilty of so many crimes and disasters that they have to be listed alphabetically, and those grotesque fools at the Seattle Times are squealing for more. One has to wonder what a Republican would have to do to lose their endorsement.

Years from now, future generations will still be suffering from the fiasco of the current Republican Party and they will plaintively ask “where were the good Americans?”

Comment by Geni

The Times' editorial board has officially either lost its collective mind, or its collective spine. (I rather suspect the latter.) Even the Tri-Cities Herald - not exactly a bastion of far-left thinking - endorsed Cantwell. The Times' endorsement of McGavick was an amusing example of cognitive dissonance. "McGavick believes this and we disagree - Cantwell feels this and we agree - but we're endorsing McGavick."

All so Ryan Blethen and the other Young Parasites can inherit unearned millions. Because, after all, we wouldn't want them to only inherit FIFTY million dollars instead of SEVENTY million dollars (for example), now would we?

Want a really good exemplar of why the estate tax should be retained? The only reason that asshole James Sensebrenner had the money to buy himself a seat in Congress is because his grandfather invented Kotex.
