Pedersen’s Speech

Posted by on September 19 at 23:20 PM

Saying the “traditionalists” had demanded it, Jamie Pedersen stood on a wooden chair in his large unfinished basement/campaign headquarters and gave a quick speech after the last batch of results showed him still in the lead.

Everyone in the room seemed confident, loudly cheering Pedersen (who was not much more than a head taller than most of his audience, even standing on the chair).

Pedersen looked confident himself, turning first to thank Ed Murray, whom he said “absolutely did not have to take the chance of endorsing me.”

Murray then stood atop another chair, and after very brief remarks handed Pedersen a campaign pin from a race won by Cal Anderson, the state’s first openly-gay legislator. More thanks were passed around, and then Pedersen’s partner, Eric, a high school assistant-principal, came up for a kiss.

“However it comes out,” Pedersen told the crowd, “it has been a great experience.”

Street is closing - this may indded be the cliff hanger that was predicted with Jim Street the dark horse...... too early for bed, but god, this is slow counting.

Isn't Street still about 7 or 8 points behind Pederson?

I'm surprised no one asked Pederson to thank Dan Savage. That sure got him a lot of publicity.

Pederson needs to work on his posture, judging by that photo.

Street is about 2 points behind Pedersen -- 200 votes.

OK, thanks, I hadn't seen the returns recently. I still kind of hope Pedersen (I keep typing Pederson) wins.

It looks like he's 3 points behind Pedersen now.

That's nice for Pedersen he has a partner. After that weird he's never been to a gay bar, he's the least gay!!! comment in one of the earlier posts, I assumed he must be single. Since we only meet other gays at gay bars, of course.

Street seems like a great candidate. If he wins, I'm happy for him.

the gap is now down to 1.1%, but with only a small percent of the votes counted.

If this trend continues, Street will catch Pedersen. Less than 2 point lea and dropping with every count.

What a race.

Wake me when they start counting the incoming absentees - isn't that next Monday?

Are they going to count any more votes tonight?

Who will do better in absentees? I know this blog says Street, but what do others say?

the house wins again.

What do you mean?

...gambling reference. the system is driven by money, corporations set the rules by which they compete with others. may the best funded candidates win.

Street has cut the lead to 35 votes with all 218 precincts reported.

Sorry, WF, I was being too literal I guess, I thought you meant the house of representatives.

Who do you think has the edge in the absentees?

Given the way things are trending, I think the question now is not whether Street will pass Pedersen, but whether Sherman will pass Pedersen to move into second place behind Street.

So what I'm hearing is, half the probable votes are counted, and it's a tie (35 votes), and nobody has a clue how the absentees are likely to drift. This one won't be certified for a week.
