Overheard at the Pedersen Party

Posted by on September 19 at 21:49 PM

There’s not much drinking going on at the Pedersen party, which is being held in a huge 1909 craftsman near the 15th Avenue business district on Captiol Hill. Instead there’s lots of soda, cookies, and earnest conversation.

But over in the corner of the kitchen, where the wine is stashed, I met up with a gossipy Pedersen supporter who was ready to dish dirt. After asking me what Dan Savage would think about my having just poured myself a glass of white on the job (and after Stranger publisher Tim Keck told him exactly what Dan would think), the gossipy man told me that Pedersen had never been to a gay bar in Seattle until a recent campaign bar hop. Then the man corrected himself. He said Jamie had been to one gay bar before the recent campaign event: the Timberline, back when it still existed, to buy a ski ticket.

So much for the gay candidate. Or, as my chatty friend put it: “Jamie’s the least gay candidate in the race.

Jamie Pedersen is gay like Clarence Thomas is black.

How utterly un holy - to prefer the bath houses to bars.

Common among non drinkers you stupid fools. Talk about banal queers - or perhaps the only really cool queer folk just sit around at the Strangerouses orifices.

if the stranger endoresed Pure and she has already conceded - well, guess what that endorsement was worth????

fucking little????

Hm, Jimmy? Pure just pulled into fourth place, behind Pedersen and Street. Many more votes to be counted, but it would seem that the Stranger's nod is worth something—it looks to have done more for Pure than the Seattle Times' nod did for Sherman, more than the KC Dems nod did for Kelly, more than the unions did for Dodson.

You have to go to gay bars in order to be a gay man? Oh, please. I have lived in Seattle for nearly 20 years and went to a few bars in my younger years but after awhile, I got tired of all of the jerks with attitude, the alcoholics, the losers who frequent them not to mention the skanky bars themselves. Good for Jamie, I say!

That house is not a Craftsman style house! Just having unpainted stained varnished woodwork and being 90 to 100 years old doesn't mean craftsman style. Shit, every cheesy colonial revival brass light fixture is now being called craftsman. It's driving me crazy.

9Aside: 10:53 pm. Looks like Alexander is still ahead of Groen for Supreme Court Justice position #8. I think this is the most important race of this election and in the top 3 for Washington state this year. However this turns out, we need to have a big conversation about how easily bought our Supreme Court seats should be. Pedersen should make this a priority.

So if you don't go to gay bars, that means you are less gay than straight people?

How does that work exactly?

Does that mean if you don't go to gay bars, you don't have sex with other men? You don't fall in love with other men?

I haven't been to a gay bar in many years. I had no idea that meant I was straight.

Look for the Seattle gay community en masse to enter the Justice Susan Owens race to help her win.

Pedersen, Murray, Joe Mc Dermott, Dave U., SGN, ERW, Sally Clark, Tom R. ..... all will join and be involved.

It is great that it seems Alexander and Chambers survived. Now, the taskis to elect Cantwell, and Owens.

Help Bruner and Omeig as well.

The fight is to keep Ownes in the face of much open homophobia and red neck vitrol.

Was Owens expected to have to have a fight in November? The GOP is going to throw so much money to try to defeat her, I'm worried for her.

I just read above this that Pederson kissed his partner at their party. I guess no one told him that he wasn't gay...

Yes, Justice Owens will have a hell of fight on her hands.

The right wing has already spent hundreds of thousands on attack ads in eastern Wa. based only on her vote for gay marriage.

The Seattle Times endorsed her opponent in the primary. For some reason she has become a kickball for the frustrations about the hard decisions the court must always make.

I like her a lot, have followed her campaign and talked to her at rallies - she has my endorsement and check.

What.. you have to be an alcoholic to be gay? And you have to snort poppers? And fuck in bath houses? And have hundreds of sexual partners? Nice to see that to be a credible gay person you have to live up to outmoded stereotypes...give me a break.

Herre is some more shocking news... all gay people don't live in Capitol Hill nabe and some don't even hang in the Capitol Hill nabe..

I am with Jon on this one. Get a clue.

You don't have to currently hang out in bars. You just had to have had a period in your life when you hung out in the bars way too much and had drunken hookups with guys you never would have slept with sober. I say to you, if you have not gotten piss drunk in a gay bar on the Pike/Pine corridor and then headed to Charlie's where you then threw up in the bathroom, you cannot claim to be a true representative of the gay community.

Capitol Hill is a diverse neighborhood and not everyone there frequents the trashy bars. As a lesbian of color I resent the suggestion that only gay white men live on the hill.
