Comment by you_gptta_be_kidding_me

This is a graphic illustration of why neither the Conservatives nor the Liberals have any chance against the Christianists. (And no, Christianists are not Conservatives in any shape or manner, no matter how much they may say they are.) Here are the cold hard facts… Chistianists are 1.) out-breeding us and 2.) indoctrinating their young more successfully. (While we also indoctrinate our young, we arguably are not as efficient at it and certainly do not have as many young to indoctrinate.)

Legitimate Conservative policy, that which would be supportable by Goldwater, arguably the founder of the modern Conservative movement, knows the Christianist for what it is. Andrew Sullivan recently wrote the following on that topic, and I think it’s right on the mark… “From the 1970s, Goldwater recognized Falwell and the religious right for what they are: charlatans who have as much concern for traditional conservatism as big government liberals do. What Goldwater would have said about the Schiavo case would not be broadcastable on network television. He also adhered to the old conservative notion of live-and-let-live. He never had a problem with gays, and although he clearly found abortion an awful thing, he wasn't about to remove a female citizen's right in the early stages of pregnancy to control her own body. He was, in other words, a conservative. Or as his great book put it: a conservative with a conscience. The irony of Goldwater's career is that this decision, made on a principled stance of federalism and limited government, became something else on the ground. It shifted the Republican Party base away from California and the sun-belt into the Deep South. Goldwater was a Western conservative, not a Southern one. And whichever party the South controls will have a hard time reflecting the kind of skeptical, libertarian, tolerant principles Goldwater believed in. So he both created American conservatism and laid the grounds for its eventual implosion.” This is the best description I have yet found of the Conservative principals I was raised with and adhere to today. Liberals need to give some careful thought before they help the Christianists destroy what remains of the Conservative movement. Who do they prefer, a Goldwater Conservative, or a Bush Christianist?

Liberals do themselves a disservice by perpetuating the myth of the Christianist as the prototype Conservative, as do Conservatives by allowing Christianists to perpetuate that same myth. Arguably the point of agreement Conservatives and Liberals must find their way to as quickly as possible is that the Christianist is their common enemy, and that they must combine force to defend against it, and that the best way to do that is to force them out into the open, and not allow them to masquerade as Conservatives. It may be principled for Conservatives and Liberals to disagree on many points, but it is suicide to both if they fail to violently agree to defend against their common enemy. Even now it may be impossible to stop the Christianists, because of their breeding programs. How many of these 13 children will have 13 children, each with 13 children of their own? (Do the math. It should scare you silly. This is the face of the coming American Taliban.)

Sometimes it makes sense to form a coalition with your enemy to face off an overwhelming threat…

I agree the Christianist movement has corrupted and misused Christianity to the point that what they practice is no longer aligned with the core principals of Christianity. (Much as the Islamists have done with Islam). And there are a number of actual Christians that follow along thinking they are in the midst of like thinking Christians. (They are deceived.) While Bush and his cronies are no more Christians than Trotsky or Lenin, they are certainly Christianists in all their glory.

Fascinating fact: They zoned their house/property as a church so they don't have to pay certain taxes (you can look it up if you want) and the oldest son isn't going to college because after all of those years of being stuck together he suffers from separation anxiety if he is away from his family for more than a few hours.

OK, after making fun of their recipes, I made their tatertot casserole (billed as "one of dad's favorites!") last night.

It actually wasn't bad, once I added some SEASONING and VEGETABLES to it.

Cheap and cheerful - perfect for a potluck.

But 16 kids? I just don't get it. What's the point? I can see if they had a few kids and adopted the rest to give them a home, but why would they feel the need to have that many? It has something to do with a miscarriage supposedly caused by birth control pills, but that's a bit much.

Also, I noticed on their website that they have a link to some sort of Xtian financial properity thing, which sets off all sorts of bullshit alarms.

Reading the recipes makes me a little ill. I'm having an Arkansalahomassouriowabraska overload. What's with all the brand-named crap? Sponsorships? Several of the recipes call for some kind of liquid protein called Bragg's Liquid Aminos, and they credit a cookbook whose twentysomething authors state the following about themselves:

We grew up in the Minneapolis area and spent two years of our childhood in the Philippines where are parents were working as missionaries. We were home educated all our schooling years and each of our siblings and us plays a stringed instrument. Currently our family lives in South Korea, assisting young families who are just beginning home education.

About six years ago, some friends introduced us to this whole concept of health eating.

Yes, that's a direct quote -- cut 'n paste. Hooray for home schooling.

Christian nutjobs just LOVE "home-based" business scams of all kinds. I'm not talking about your mainstream Tupperware/Mary Kay stuff; I'm talking about productless MLMs and investment circles and that sort of thing. And of course they love anything that involves sending money in and getting God's blessing in exchange. It used to be "slap a dollar on the radio and PRAY", or selling embossed Bibles door-to-door; now it's a lot more sophisticated. But in the end the con artist still ends up with all your money.

Then again, I have really lowbrow taste in food, so I'd probably really like Tater Tot Casserole.

Every foodie reading this is now permitted to faint dead away.
