Bush Acknowledges Secret CIA Prisons

Posted by on September 6 at 12:01 PM

Not the most shocking news, but still disturbing. Do we give him points for admitting it?

No, he's admitting it because he's trying to get Congress to pass legislation making his Red House staff and himself immune to prosecution for War Crimes.

So no pass on admitting we illegally torture people overseas against our own constitution and against all treaties.

It's just bad.

Besides, they know they're losing both the House and the Senate now in the Red GOP polls, so they're scared they'll be called to justice ...

We don't give him a pass for admitting it. He is like a cheating husband: only admits when he knows he's caught. Except, this isn't a bj, it is the torturing of human beings.

Not that it will matter to the 30%. They see perfectly clearly that the bj was impeachable, but the torturing is good. After all, it is people that are out to get us because of all of our freedom, right? (can't you already hear them?)

In the twisted minds of many Americans (i.e. voters) this is another example of movie style justice (secret C.I.A. operations, etc.). Bush and cronies may be covering their ass, but they're also positioning their "tough on Terrorism" stance in perfect time to the upcoming elections. Expect more rhetoric to that effect.

Nope

Definitely not. He might have gotten a pass had he made the admission immediately following the first published reports in the MSM, AND if he had admitted it violated both the Constitution & treaties signed by the US.

Fifth Rule of Ethical Behavior: If you make a mistake, admit it immediately.

Instead, he's only made the admission in the manner of a small child repeatedly caught with his hand in the cookie jar, who has simply run out of increasingly implausible excuses.

Comte> that assumes it was a mistake. This was no mistake. The only thing that wasn't totally intentional was getting caught.

Aren't the prisoners in the focus of this whole thing being awarded Combatant status, protecting them under the Geneva Convention? I'd say that suggests Bush had no politically safe choice but to admit it as we were all going to hear about it any way.

His admission of tunring his back on New Orleans was worth more than anything he's done as president, but admission of guilt is far from absolution isn't it?

I'm hopinh the shake-ups in The UK are a foreshadowing of the shitstorm this administration is currently just downwind of.

No.

Israel has thousands of islamo-terrorists in prisons and nobody knows their names. The United States could learn a lot by copying Israel. If we can't kill the islamo-fucks we have to herd them into prisons. Liberals who whine about the prisons better remember 9/11. Israel and America can rid the world of terrorists if we all stand strong.

A pass? On secret prisons? Are you kidding? How about we award him three simultaneous congressional investigations instead? Bush must go down for this and for all the rest, he MUST. Or else the next guy, or the guy after that, will go even further. Maybe they can ALL be secret prisons.

Just remember, even Pinochet is being brought to Justice.

You can lie, but you can't hide.

oh, and Mike, it's not 30 percent anymore - latest poll shows self-identified GOPers are down to 21 percent from 29 percent only six months ago.

I don't see the point in giving Bush points for anything, since it's obvious he's just a hand-puppeted ex-Texass-hotdog-salesman.

This gang of cutthroats is happy to drag America down - in the eyes of the world, and fiscally - while they make bank. No hay problema. What you and I think don't figure in the rape.

Fuck George "W is for War Criminal" Bush.

The only pass I'd give him is a one-way ticket (preferably on extraordinary rendition airlines) to his trial at the Hague.

Pinochet is only being held to account because the Spanish got involved. If it had just been left up to the Chileans, nothing would have happened. He still has (had?) too many supporters.

TJ - Bush is NOT a Texan. I am. I was born there. Bush wasn't. He never grew up dealing with fire ants, rattlesnakes in his crib, or singing the Yellow Rose of Texas.

Please - remember - Texas is a split state, like Washington, with a lot of Dems and a loony tune governor - remember when we had Dixie Lee Ray here? GWB's like that.
