Slog - Comments on A self-professed "Hot Blooded Latina"

Gov. Ahnold Schwarzenegger is apologizing again for inappropriate behavior (see: "Close the border" with Mexico, women groping), this time for attributing an assemblywoman's attitude to her black and Latino blood. Apparently, the comments were made during a closed, tape-recorded speech writing meeting while the Gov'nator was speaking affectionately about Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia. From the NYT: ''I mean Cuban, Puerto-Rican, they are all very hot,'' the governor says on the recording. ''They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it.'' And then! Ms. Garcia herself appeared...

Comment by Moving Right Along Then

So, she's really offended by this but affraid to lose her job. Is that it then? Is that why she made a public statement addressing this as a non issue?

True, it's always safest to tiptoe around race/religion/gender/politics, but this took place in behind closed doors and there is no context to judge their working relationship or the atmosphere of their office. For all we know she calls Arnold L'il Roid Balls or Kraut Doggy Dogg all day and they have a rapport that is permissive of a little ethnic humor (not unlike alot of people who are comfortable among diversity, Nigga Scholar anyone?). So let's just let this one slide and fry some bigger fish, cool? It's not like he referred to her as his favorite lazy spic during a press conference.

Some are people just so eager to struggle that they'll do it vicariously if they have to, right?

Please, don't be offended for me. I'm not anybody's victim.

Yours truely,

Comment by JMHT

I am a Puerto-Rican American, and I donated blood over my lunch hour today, at the Blood Center at Terry & Madison. Like Foreigner commanded, I checked it & saw...well, the nice woman who checked my blood pressure told me that my pressure and temerature were within the normal range, anyway. I feel cheated now, for not being quite so hot-blooded.
