Tim’s Take

If you are as frustrated by last night’s episode of Project Runway as I am, you may find solace in Tim Gunn’s blog. If they don’t get crazy Vincent out of there soon, I’m gonna lose it.

if you read the text at the end of the show, you will see that it says the judges take their scores and also input from the producers into account when making their decisions. if people had shut up about Vincent and not made him the focus of so much attention, he'd be gone today. but nope, here you are still giving space to the whacko, ensuring he won't be kicked next week either.

Um, the reason we talk about Vincent is because the producers have already decided to show his sociopathic skank more than the other contestants. Don't confuse "reality" with reality; this show is completely orchestrated. The viewers are not responsible for Vincent's continued existence.

That was indeed a travesty: Alison's garment was poor but nothing like Vincent's filthy meat wrapper. Vincent finishes second-last in every single challenge, while Alison had a reasonable track record before last night. Fortunately, she is young and will go one to greater things; I fully expect Vincent to become the world's most annoying homeless man after he finally gets the boot: he offers nothing to humanity.

Last night's win was also a mistake. While I'm rooting for Michael to take the final prize, I thought Jeffrey clearly deserved last night's top place. His dress was unusual, and WEARABLE. Michael's ensemble was stylish, but only that.

Cruella De Architect is EVIL INCARNATE and I am beginning to worship her pale, bony uglybeauty. That black cocktail dress she wore last night was spectacular, revealing the entire bony expanse of her chest. Deliciously undead.

Absolutely right: I hate Jeffrey's neck and his attitude but his dress kicked ass. Michael's looked like it was made out of trash. I wonder how many times Cruella's tit popped out in the filming.

i loved it when she went off on vincent. he doesn't deserve to be there. fashion is part style and part buyer appeal (wearability, etc.) and his designs have neither. i bet he's sleeping with one of the judges, like that american idol contestant.

Jeffrey totally had Cruella's number. Every dress is the same basic design. What did she design as an architect? Garages?

Vincent is crazy. But I think he has some value. He is a counterpoint to structured and formal fashion. He is the Devo of the this show. Whether he truly takes himself seriously, I can't tell. Just like with Devo, it takes an outlier to define the boundaries of the genre. Vincent is an outlier, and now everyone else knows not to go that far. Now they need to boot Neck Tattoo and the Fountainhead, and the show will rule.

What creeped me out was Vincent saying how much his creation "turned him on," as in a sexual way. Ew. Someone ask Savage what the term is for that kind of kink!

Is that "Lieberman"?

i completely love laura. she might have a potty mouth but she hasnt been wrong about something once. jeffrey is a total jerk-off, vincent is crazy and her stuff is always well-made. and you gotta love her for the awkward impromptu beatboxing/dancing sequence with michael (whose win i support if only because captain save-a-ho is so much more fun than jeffrey quack-quack-jackass sebelia)

Neck Tattoo should have won last night. That is all.

And thus did Project Runway step on the necks of their straight male viewers.

I am genuinely upset. Last night's misjudging was outrageous. Alison had great style, a calm, circumspect approach, and she was way foxy. OF COURSE she'd lose to Vincent and Kayne, both of whom stunk it up big time. Kayne gets a pass based on his previous work--well if that's part of the judging criteria, wouldn't Vincent have gotten the boot and Alison a reprieve?

Oh, Alison.

It seems to me that Kayne designs more for female impersonators than females. His work would be right at home in a nightclub show on South Beach, but does any woman wear dresses with strips of leather or green glitter? It's wonderful that he can sew, but if what you sew would look more at home on Divine (bless her soul) than any of the show's models, isn't that a sign that maybe you aren't America's Next Great Designer?

Oh, Alison...

Vincent sticking around is the clearest sign yet that PR has jumped the shark. Do the producers think so little of us that they'll repeatedly choose wackjobs who churn out soundbites to designers with genuine promise? I mean, ugh.

Alison Alison Alison.

Vincent Libretti is the Devo of Project Runway???

Damn--now I've got to clean milk & Fruity Cheerios off my computer monitor, Andrew C...

I don't know if that connective comparison is inspired or insane...but I have to admit that I never saw it coming.

Let me try one... Jeffrey Sebelia is the Pop Will Eat Itself of Project Runway.

Oooh...that almost works.
Here...let's do another one...

Laura Bennett is the...oh, I don't know...she's...she's the Kenny G of Project Runway...

Hmmmm...anyone else want to play?

pg

I love how much Tim hates Vincent.

Can we combine Laura's nicknames and call her Cruella De Fountainhead?

I am just sad that the cute girl won't be on the show. I have a mad crush on Allison. She was so sweet and purdy.

As for Laura, I fucking love Laura. She cuts right through the shit. I LOVE a mouthy woman who can talk shit.

If the producers are keeping Vincent around because they think he is interesting...then they are wrong. He is just annoying and he kinda grosses me out. At least Santino was funny and amusing with his Tim Gunn impersonations and his yelling at Nina. Vincent is just a big dork off.

I am very fond of Cruella De Fountainhead (name and person/character).

I actually think alison would have gotten away with it if she hadn't had a flop with playing at whimsy in her choice of styling.

It was lovely last night when Cruella took a break from eating diamond encrusted ortolan to get nasty with poor deluded Victor.

And when Michael asked her to "please stop" her scary hip-hop moves, I nearly pee'd.

I knew Alison was toast when Heidi uttered what is, for the fashion world, the uttermost damnation: "She looks like a plus model."

It doesn't matter how badly done Kayne's - THING - was, or how horrendously unwearable Vincent's walking trashbag was, she committed the ultimate sin of fashion. She made a model look fat.

I can't abide Vincent - it's not his weirdness or his oddball designs I dislike, it's his fucking argumentativeness on the runway. Everything the judges say, he has to talk back and get all defensive. It's really childish.

And it was delicious to see Ugly Neck Tattoo Boy get slapped down, despite the fact that his dress was excellent; he is so fucking arrogant and conceited, and was so convinced that he was God Boy of Fashion, that just watching his expression when Michael won made the episode for me. He looked like a dog eating shit out of a wire brush.

Did anyone else notice that, in the recycling center, only one person in the bunch knew how to wear a hard hat? Unsurprisingly, it was the architect, Laura. The rest of them either had them tilted fetchingly over one eye, or perched on the tippy-top of their head like beanies.

I'm with you, Lezgrl, mouthy broads make life bearable. But Vincent must die. Maybe next week he and Angela can get into a wrestling match on the roof and fall to their deaths.

Oh, and Michael, Robert, and Ulli appear to be the only people in the bunch that you would actually allow in your house; the rest of them are either screaming divas or flaming assholes. I think Ulli's going to be a sleeper this season - everyone will ignore her while she continues to do quality work, quietly, and they'll turn around one day and she'll have won.

can anyone get me a picture of tim in the hard hat? he wore it so stylishly confidant!

oh, tim...

My generation is probably showing, but what did the great unwashed mean when he told Laura to put some Harry Winston up her nose?
