The Climate-Change “Debate”

Posted by on August 9 at 11:36 AM

Better known for their igloos, the Inuit of far northern Canada are buying air conditioners.

“These are the times when the far north has to have air-conditioners now to function,” said Sheila Watt-Cloutier, a rights activist for 155,000 Inuit in Canada, Alaska, Russia and Greenland.

“Our Arctic homes are made to be airtight for the cold and do not `breathe’ well in the heat with this warming trend,” she said.

Meanwhile, even Pat Robertson says he’s a “convert” to the anti-global warming cause.

It's only going to get worse.

Good thing I have waterfront property in Fremont.

Will...

Are you the freak with the billboard?

Christians like Pat Robertson and the Republicans are to blame for global warming. If Bush wasn't president we could stop global warming today.

I can't believe I just heard these words out of Pat Robertson's mouth: "And I think we really need to address the burning of fossil fuels. If we are contributing to the destruction of this planet, we need to do something about it."

If America is going to do anything about global warming -- i.e. make some tough transitions and sacrifices -- Christian activists are going to have to play a major role. They did the same for abolition and civil rights. And I have to think that "stewardship of the Earth" is hardly a trivial Judeo-Christian value.

I know there's a budding Christian environmentalist movement. If only those folks and the more secular traditional environmentalist organizations could coalesce! I don't know, perhaps there's a role to be played therein for the likes of Al Gore.

what billboard?

you mean the one saying "Will the last person to admit Iraq is a Quagmire and Global Warming is Real please shoot themselves?" nah.

He's probably talking about the rabid lefty billboard on one of the businesses on Westlake near the Fremont bridge. The message changes, but it's always some variation on "Wake up America and see what the Republicans are doing to you!"

Oh, never seen it. Oh, wait, you mean the one way over near China Gate or whatever, where the boat yards are?

Dude, that's not Fremont. That's Queen Anne. Buy a map.
