No Access

Posted by on August 30 at 10:09 AM

In a move that’s being called “positively Orwellian” by the Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), the Bush Administration has decided to “end public access to research materials” at EPA Regional libraries without Congressional consent.

Nearly 80,000 documents are being boxed up, likely never to be seen again. At least 15 of these regional libraries will be closed down by Sept. 30, 2006. They sure do move fast when it comes to erasing our society’s collective knowledge. Not so much when it comes to increasing it.

PEER press release.

Oh. Fuck.
The shoes just keep on dropping, don't they.
Just wait until President Jeb takes office after the 2008 "elections".

Thanks for this--I wrote my congresspeople. Probably will do little good but one has to do *something.* On the PEER website, I found a host of revolting news items, chief among them:

http://www.peer.org/campaigns/faith-based/index.php

Unfortunately, that's old news - the national park I worked in last summer however was as of that time unaffected, but reports were in from the Grand Canyon - but jaw-dropping, and revoltingly stifled in the public awareness.

When do we get our country back?

Jesus. I've spent some time in the Bonneville Power Administration library down in Portland, and the librarians there are positively desperate to help you as much as possible. Their peers over at EPA must be sick to their stomachs.

Those records belong to us, you know.

Just when I think he can't do anything else, I am proved wrong. Write to your congressmen, people!

And do everything you can to make sure Jeb isn't in there next.

I don't know what's worse - the rape and pillage of our country by the Republicans in power or the pathetic whimpering of the Democratic "opposition". I am so pissed at politicians right now that I don't know what to do. When are the Dems ever going to grow a pair? Why don't they stand up against Bush - the Worst President Ever? Why are they so afraid of taking anything but the most tepid disagreement against corruption and cronyism? And why hasn't every Democrat in Washington demanded an end to the Iraq war?
