Ned Lamont: Where’s Patty?

Posted by on August 15 at 11:54 AM

Ned Lamont—who gladly took my $2100—beat Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut primary last week by four percentage points. Since announcing his intention to run as an independent, Joe Lieberman has been running around repeating GOP talking points (people who voted for Lamont hate American and want the terrorists to win!), cashing checks from Republicans, and working against the interests of the Democrat party. (Lieberman is imperiling the Democratic Party’s chances of re-taking the House and the Senate.)

Dems in the Senate face a choice: Do they back their party’s own nominee, Ned Lamont, or do they back their old, unreliable, selfish, myopic, increasingly unhinged pal Joe?

Bob Geiger is keeping track at his blog: Hillary Clinton is supporting Lamont, as is Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, Tom Harkin, Barak Obama, Harry Reid, John Kerry, and Washington state’s Maria Cantwell.

Just three Dem senators are backing Lieberman, and 18 have yet to announce who they will support in November.

One of the 18 is our senior senator, Patty Murray.

So, Patty, whose side are you on? I’m know I’m curious. If any Slog readers are curious, you can contact Murray at 202-224-2621 or email her via her website.

"Lieberman is imperiling the Democratic Party’s chances of re-taking the House of Representatives"

Uhm...I think you mean senate, right?

Maybe, given Lamont is the Democrat candidate in his respective district, Patty Murray feels it goes without saying, as do the other 17 candidates.

Didn't the party as an entity turn its back on Lieberman anyway?

More so the House. Dianne Farrell, Chris Murphy, and Joe Courtney are all in winnable races made much tougher when the continued distraction of Joe Lieberman in the Senate race. Moderate Democrats in Connecticut who may countenance voting for a Lieberman would have no problem whatsoever voting for Shays, Nancy Johnson, or Rob Simmons.

Also, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) had to be dragged kicking and screaming to support Ned Lamont. He vigorously campaigned for Joe Lieberman, and would not state until after the fact that he would even support the winner of the primary. It is never a foregone conclusion with these types. Getting them on the record that they support the democratic process and the will of the people is not as obvious as one would imagine, as bizarre as that sounds.

Lieberman who? Isn't he that Bushie? I hear he and Rove are _this_ close.

I called (and was ridirected to 206-286-9199) and the staffers told me, "I don't know. Can I call you back?" It was rather disappointing.

just go to the website and send an email, with the URL of the stranger SLOG on it.

I'm sure they'll notice.

206 is the local area code.
