Hot Homophobe of the Day

Posted by on August 9 at 16:10 PM

Not one but two Slog readers just wrote in to alert us to the amazing email sent out today by the owner of Outsidepride.com, which sounds like it could be some online community of ex-gays but is actually a gardening supply retailer. Nevertheless, after one traumatic night of watching CBS, Outsidepride’s owner Troy Hake saw fit to send the following email to his entire customer base:

This is not your typical newsletter from Outsidepride.com, Inc. In fact, this is the first one in six years which is not business related. I apologize for cluttering your inbox with an unsolicited email; however you are free to unsubscribe just by clicking the link at the bottom.

I want to share with you my television viewing experience the other night on prime time television. I ask those of you who agree with me to go to www.cbs.com and go to the bottom of the page, click the feedback link and express your opinion. I know the vast majority of you will agree with me as all polls indicate. We are the majority, not the minority as the liberal media would lead you to believe.

My wife and I sat down to watch television the other night with our children. Cold Case was on which is normally a fairly enjoyable show to watch; however, the last half hour of the show dealt with a young man who wished he had asked his male friend to come with him (long story short). The show ended with the two men hugging and obvious intimation they had discovered their gay feelings towards each other. The very next show was Without A Trace. The whole last half hour of this show was about two lesbians who were struggling with their feelings of lesbianism. It ended with full acceptance from one father and the two lesbians making out. Yes, they were kissing right at the end of the show on public prime time television. So much for wholesome family television.

Now, I am NOT trying to bash homosexuals and I am not a bigot; however, I feel homosexuality is morally wrong and should not be “promoted” as what is the norm for society. Text books are being rewritten as I am writing this to “highlight” every homosexual who has made a contribution to society. There are teachers who have been asked to make sure students know that, “This person in history was a homosexual.” History is being rewritten to promote homosexuality and prime time television is doing its best to make homosexuality a “normal” behavior. If homosexuality was the norm, civilization would have ceased to exist thousands of years ago. Procreation takes a man and a woman. There was Adam and then there was Eve, not Adam and Steve.

There are literally tens of thousand of you reading this email right now. If you are tired of the way public television is going let CBS know! It will only take about 1 minute of your time. Again, just go to www.cbs.com and click the feedback link at the bottom. It is time the majority speak up and not let the minority run this country. The majority can bring back the Christian heritage this country was founded on because it is, “In God We Trust.”

Thank you for your time,
Troy Hake
President
Outsidepride.com, Inc.

I’m almost ready to believe his assertion of non-bigotry—no legitimate bigot would’ve screwed up the “God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve” quote. Still, Hake’s extension of his paper-thin, black-and-white worldview to the whole of the world’s population is a classic bigot move—CBS wasn’t presenting homosexuality as “the norm,” they were presenting it as one of many possible norms, but such dualism is terrifying to bigots, who are locked in a battle to make their beliefs the world’s beliefs, and can only imagine everyone else is trying to do the same.

Whatever. Go to the CBS website and tell them you appreciate the inclusion. (Scroll down to the “feedback” link on the bottom left.)

What would Daniel Freykus say?

Really, we all miss the Freykus saga.

Who the hell watches public television?

Justin, I think you mean: "Who the hell watches NETWORK television?"

I think David is being way too kind in giving this poor bedeviled fellow the benefit of the doubt. He sounds like a bigot to me. He also sounds like a man who is suppressing his own sexual drives. He seems WAY too upset about a random gay scene in a television drama. We'll probably hear about his breakdown one of these days.

Once again Independence Oregon makes us proud. But where is the "in the news" link on their website to 'The Stranger'?

Not only is David being way too kind, this is a good example of the blatant homophobia that exists today. This man has a large company with a client list that he is using to further his heterosexist viewpoint. I hope it backfires.

I never get tired of the "Adam and Steve" line. Whichever thumper came up with that should demand royalties.

I not only emailed CBS to tell them how much I enjoyed "their responsible depiction of gay partnership," but I also emailed Troy of outsidepride to tell him that yes he is in fact a bigot and that I will not be shopping with him anymore.

um so you're telling me that shows like cold case files and without a trace are good "family" television... look i am sorry, but i have to take issue with that assertion in the first place. it's ok for our children to watch shows and movies about death and kidnapping and murder, but when people love each other, that's where we draw the line (?) what the hell is that? personally i have to believe that the only "family" part of those shows was the depiction of 2 people realizing their love for one another.

what a jerk.

I love it when people say, "I'm not a bigot..." and then proceed to talk about "The Gays" & "immoral" and "against nature" etc.

You gotta admit, that "Adam and Steve" argument is a sure winner every time.

word to natters.

What was this idiot doing watching crime dramas with his kids? I'm guessing that the homosexuality was the only content in both shows that didn't disturb the kids.

I, sir, am in no way a racist; I just feel as though black people are a scourge on society and should not be promoted as "normal".

From Outsidepride.com:

Troy Hake, Co-owner: Troy has been the visionary and leading creator of Outsidepride.com. Troy has a bachelors degree in psychology and a masters degree in health education. Troy served six years working in administration in the Army Reserves and has taught Computers I, Computers II and Health Education classes in local high schools. Troy had a strong interest in web design and becoming an entrepreneur. Working on farms from age 10 and gaining connections in the grass seed industry, gave him the vision of creating Outsidepride.com so customers such as your self could purchase high quality seeds at great prices.

Natters,

Though I agree with the point you're making, just so you know, "Cold Case" and "Cold Case Files" are two different shows.

On a related note, most television programming after 9pm is meant for an adult audience. It's not CBS's fault if "moral" people choose to let their kids stay up late and watch whatever they'd like.

Holy crap, he has a strong interest in web design? He taught COMPUTERS ONE in a high school? I take it all back. He's a genius. You gays gotta stop touching his seeds.

Stay off my T.V. pussy you faggots.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I will know make sure I go over to cbs.com and thank them for presenting such a postive homosexual image on television, you disgusting bigot.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I will now make sure I go over to cbs.com and thank them for presenting such a postive homosexual image on television, you disgusting bigot.

He sat down with his kids to enjoy some nice quality family time watching rapes, murders, tortures, robberies, and assaults? And is pissed it was interrupted by a couple of guys hugging and girls kissing? He's right, it's much worse to show two people who love each other than a guy who keeps women in cages and slashes them with razors.

And this asshole teaches health classes in high school. There is about a 100% chance that at least a few of the kids in those classes are LGBTQ. And he's teaching them that who they are is wrong, immoral, and disgusting. Isn't that just wonderful.

To paraphrase his own words: "I am not a bigot; however, I feel homophobia and hate is morally wrong and should not be “promoted” as what is the norm for society."

Besides, any self-respecting gay would know it's Adam and Steven, not Adam and Steve.

natters definitely hit the nail square on the head.

what kind of myopic twit willfully lets their kids watch people commiting acts of violence, bodies being shoved into bodybags, and who knows how many bloody autopsy scenes, perhaps a little dash of rape, and only become paranoid that a sub-plot portraying mutual affection is going to "make their kids gay"?

(yeah it was rhetorical, don't answer) ;]

I love Cold Case. Lilly Rush is a cutie, with her blowsy too-overworked-to-brush hair and her occasional melancholy. But mostly, I love that CC has had several stories centering around themes that other shows would shy away from. One of my favorites involved a case from the 1920s where 2 girls ran away to be lovers and one died. The story involved issues of orientation, race, and to a lesser degree, class.

BTW, Cold Case was an 8pm show until recently, and does not depict the kind of violence and gore re-enactments that CSI and other shows do.

Wow, thanks for posting this to the Slog. I took the time to send a note to CBS.com thanking them for the gay/lesbian content.

I also sent a note to the garden dude wondering why he lets his kids watch tv shows about murder, rape, kidnappings, and other violent/scary crimes. But he's worried about his kids seeing people kissing! That's bizarre.

Go to the following link http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/1903/ and see how Mr Hake (Hate?)tried to inflate his ratings at garden watchdog. He is not only a bigot but a con artist as well
