First & Virginia

Posted by on August 27 at 22:12 PM

So… not sure exactly what happened downtown tonight.

Stopped at Le Pichet for dinner around 8:15—what’s up with the kitchen there? it took an hour and half to get our freakin’ food—and found a King County Sheriff’s car t-boned into a black car at First & VIrginia. The accident had already happened when we arrived, and both cars were just sitting there. The sheriff’s car was empty but the siren was blaring, the car that the sheriff’s car hit was empty, and a bike was on the ground. Another sheriff pulled up and got into the first car and turned off the siren. A crowd of waiters and customers from Le Pichet and Virginia Inn were standing around, checking it out.

Found out later that—according to the rumor mill—that the black car was stolen, the first sheriff’s car was in hot pursuit, the black car attempted to swing through the intersection and go around the sheriff’s car, and that’s when the black car got hit. Apparently the accident caused the driver of the black car to spill nacho cheese sauce all over the inside of his car. The driver of the black car then fled on foot and the first sheriff chased him, which is why both cars were empty when we arrived. According to the bartender at Le Pichet, the sheriff shot the fleeing driver… in Pike Place Market somewhere.

I’m sure the dailies will write this up for the morning papers, so we’ll all be able to compare the street-corner-rumor-mill version of events with the actual police reports tomorrow.

Finally, I was having dinner with my brother, who was visiting from Chicago. The violence made him feel right at home. The amount of time we had to wait for our food made us both feel right in France.

And people wonder why we still need daily newspapers. Here's a good example: "I'm sure the dailies will write this up for the morning papers." And for their web sites. Guess there is still a place for newspapers afterall.

small-town newspapers cover everything. not so much big city papers.

Im surprised that they were so slow at Le Pichet. They have been beyond attentive when I have been there

I didn't see a thing about it in the Times this morning. Feh.

wow, dan. you got a shout out at EveryDayShouldBeSaturday.com, the best damn blog in the world. bet you never thought you would be a reference on a University of Florida college football website, huh.

When I moved to Seattle I went to Le Pichet, home sick, thinking it was going to be filled with French like me. The staff looked very French. Even the girls working there looked like handsome French waitresses. Sadly, I would try to speak french to them and discovered to my astonishment nobody spoke a word. I felt like an American at McDonald's in France!

Le Pichet is wonderful, I feel right at home there. Anyone who won't spend $80 for a French meal simply doesn't know how to live.

Actually, M.H., I was in France about a dozen years ago and attempted to order in (admittedly poor) French at a McDonald's. The woman behind the counter put on her best superior-French-person expression and asked, in English, "What do you want?"

Eat, bleat, excrete: Part Deux

Le Pichet is my escape when I can't make it to Paris. I go to France about four times a year so when I'm here I really miss the food. The service should be faster, and I'd show my displeasure by leaving a small tip. French food is simply divine, and eating at Le Pichet is as good as it gets. What wine did you select Dan? Le Pichet has some good ones.

Just when L'Etranger gets me down, just when you seem too sick to salvage (& the retch reflex kicks in), you do something noble like this:

DEAR EDITOR: I read Noel Black's story on how to siphon money from Christian organizations like Focus on the Family. Noel had the temerity to call them "anti-gay bigots," but I think that the bigot label is just as applicable to Mr. Black.

Black's article displays a classic anti-Christian bigotry, and he gleefully plays the scoundrel by taking advantage of the good nature of these organizations. This organization and other Christian and Mormon organizations put forward significant effort and money to help people of all walks of life live a more happy and fulfilled life. The resources Noel Black is encouraging people to siphon off this organization is money that may have helped a young family with counseling, or a homeless family with shelter and a meal.

If that is Mr. Black's goal, I have a few other suggestions for him:

1. Take copies of the Gideon Bible or the Book of Mormon when you stay at hotels, and sell them online.

2. Eat free meals meant for the homeless from Christian organizations.

3. Bunk in Christian homeless shelters.

4. Ask your local church for food, clothing, and assistance paying rent.

With very little effort, Mr. Black could easily write articles on how to live for free off the largess of the Christian community. The irony is they are doing this out of love, and Mr. Black calls them "bigots." After reading this article, I think I will make a donation to Focus on the Family to pay for some of the purchases that Mr. Black was unwilling to pay for himself.

To Noel Black, all I have to say is, shame on you.

Richard Qualey

Black's a bigot. You were idiots for giving him column inches. You almost redeemed yourselves by printing Qualey's superb response.

Hundreds of thousands of displaced victims from Katrina, Dan. The Stranger, busily eating & bleating, did nothing for them. Government at all levels let them down. Gregoire backed off her offer of a home away from home.

Churches, as usual, filled the gap and filled their hunger ... probably not the primo Parisian cuisine to which you are accustomed ... but maybe some downhome Houston red-state tofu-ribs.

Assuming, give a damn, that you're not a troll, can you tell us what Focus on the Family did for Katrina victims?

There's a difference between being against a political organization that masquerades as a Christian one, and being anti-Christian.

Indeed, let me point out that at Le Pichet, you must ask for your $80 French Meal from your server as it is not on le menu. When I want to 'top shelf it' in front of les amis, duh, that's what I always get: the $80 French Meal. Ya douche.

The Stranger hates Christianity. Period.

The hate is here; it's clear; get used to it.

Christianity—thanks to the words and actions of so many Christians—is eminently hateable.

That's great, GAD. Unfortunately, Focus on the Family is not in the business of giving shelters, blankets or food to hurricane victims. They are in the business of telling women not to have careers, and teens not to be gay. It is by no means a charitable entity, but a reactionary and dogmatic one.

FTR I may not have joined the Peace Corps, but I've done more for Katrina victims than a case of books about how wrong the DaVinci Code ever could.

But anyway, back to the actual story of the article, about police activity at First and Virginia:

Seattle man leads police on long chase, ST

Christians won't let gays marry and Jews insist on letting Rabbi's suck blood of baby cock. Religion is a farce to fool idiots.

Seattle is the LEAST RELIGIOUS city in the nation. If you don't like living with atheists, then move!

The Torah works well for wiping the shit off your ass, as does the bible

Holy tear-through! Atheism easily avoided with bidet.

...ya douche.

*quietly tiptoes back out of troll cave*

Today, the P-I says this is another case of deputies operating inside the city not following police procedures: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/282940_chase29.html

But let's try to tie all of these threads together: did the car thief hate Christians? Was he a Christian? What about the deputy? Was his passenger with the outstanding prostitution warrants a descendant of Mary Magdalene? Should one wipe one's ass with the Bible after eating French food? This has been one ill-focused comments conversation.

Cool Threads: Because the wankers who set the agenda here are preoccupied with power eating, some of us grab a dangling thread & get it while we can.

Sincerely,

Non-Sequiturs R Us,
I (Heart) Dobson & Cruella Harris,
Impeach Savage Schmader
