A Slog Reader Writes…

Posted by on August 16 at 11:47 AM

Don’t know if you caught the quote from yesterday’s NYT from Benjamin Netanyahu, Isreal’s right wing opposition leader, in talking about the Lebanon war:

“It must be said honestly, there were many failures, failures identifying the threat, failures in preparing to meet the threat, failures in management of the war, failures in the management of the home front.”

Word for word the exact stuff that should be coming from our own opposition….

Exactly what Andrew Sullivan is saying today.

The nay-sayers will be proved wrong in time. Israel needed to occupy southern Lebanon as a base for attacking Iran. We've got bases in Iraq now to support Israel. America and Israel must control Iran's oil fields to prevent China from controlling them. Thanks to the recent successful war, Israel has brought us all one step closer to our goal. Don't listen to the anti-war extreme left, there are positive things happening. Shalom.

Sullivan's post is well-written. If it was so important to go in and conquer Iraq and root out terrorism there, why did they do such a half-assed job of it? The war in Iraq was so incompetent in its planning. I think any kid who played any type of war sim game could've done a better job than Cheny/Rummy.

And Josh the Troll apparently doesn't read the links and just spams his usual crap.

What's half assed about several brand new permanent American bases in Iraq? Look at a map, Iran is right next door. We've put permanent American airstrips right where we need them. Now Israel can attack Iran and America can offer air support. Quit whining look at what's going right. Israel is stronger than ever, and that's good for America.

P.S. Does everyone you don't agree with get labeled a "troll".

It's time to admit that five years of failure by these freaks doesn't justify three more years of boondoggles, dead soldiers, and the massive shipment of weapons under no-bid Red contracts to Bushie comrades.

Josh,
nah, just the ones that raise the same comments regardless of context.

Had you read the article, you'd see it supports your pro-military stance, and is not a nay-sayer. The article just says "hey, even Israeli's can criticize their war effort, why can't we?"

If you have to go to war (legitimacy of Iraq war aside), you should go in full-effort and not try to finesse some half-assed minimal effort in order to please the electorate. Thus, GW & his cronies have endangered us b/c they didn't think beyond beating the Iraqi army, and now it's a mess over there.

And who really needs permanent airbases in Iraq (and they're hardly permanent) when we have carrier fleets? Plus, Afghanistan is next to Iran, but half-ass Bush pulled troops out to attack Iraq (leaving 9/11 culprit Osama free to sing "The Hills are Alive". No, wait, no singing allowed.).

good point, Him, the entire Middle East is about the size of Washington State - ok, maybe we'd have to add Idaho, but still ...

that guy is to the right olmert. right-wingers always criticize how wars are conducted (bosnia and kosovo come to mind). they get a free pass on it, just like democrats do on race.
