Time to Play… Spot the Typo!

Posted by on July 28 at 14:32 PM

Can YOU find the problem on this week’s otherwise-glorious Stranger cover?

The Slog URL is incorrect in the little starburst in the upper right corner.

I know this isn't what you mean but I have always had a problem with "Free every Thursday". First of all I get the paper on Wednesdays and second, it is free every day. I know it's anal but that has always bothered me. On the plus side this cover is the best I have seen in a long time. I don't know what I like better: His single crucifix earring or the torn strip of black fabric he is using for a belt!

I've always wondered why no one in your IT department will fix Megan Selig's keyboard.

Her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! key seems to be stuck. She uses the fucking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in every story/preview she writes.

It makes her read like a hyper 12-year old with a crush on a closeted boy-band member.

How come no one ever edits that crap out?

Or rather, the 'V' was left out of Vol.

Cyclist: It's a nearly invisible but important style rule known as "preserve the writer's voice."

Segal, you are SHARP, man. When the music scene dies out you can some work for me.

"When the music scene dies out you can [sic] some work for me."

Is this your way of submitting your resignation?

Nah, it's not VOL (OL), it's not Free Every Thursday (I get mine on Wednesday), I think it's using WA.

I don't live in Western Australia, so the WA State Supreme Court has no jurisdiction here. But the Washington State Supreme Court does ...

Thanks Amy, for clarifying. I agree with you to an extent, but in this case wouldn't an editor advise a writer to ease up on the exclamation point? Any style guide will tell you that the exclamation point is best when used sparingly and in rare instances at that.

Do you enjoy listening to someone who speaks like THIS! In every other SENTENCE! OH my GAWD! That's so AWESOME!

Now, would you enjoy reading that?

I know she's young and she's writing to a young audience, but too assume that audience is a bunch gum-smacking pre-teens parading around the mall in Hot-Topic gear is a bit condescending. On the other hand she does like some pretty lame mall-punk so maybe she's writing to the right audience afterall.

We do take some of the exclamation points out. And have you ever heard Megan talk? Hers is an easily excited voice, and we treasure it.

"some" s/b "come," of course...

I've always read Megan's punctuation/caps choices as sarcasm. Am I wrong?

"Do you enjoy listening to someone who speaks like THIS! In every other SENTENCE! OH my GAWD! That's so AWESOME!"

They run that I Love TV column each week and it's nothing but 10 column inches of CAPS LOCK, ! and BUT!. He does the same thing in his Slog posts.

Either some likes it or editorial doesn't have the strength/patience to edit it down.

The cover typo: The white trash dude taking up most of it.

The abundance of emphasis doesn't bother me, for whatever reason. Just combatting selective sampling here...

huh, and i was going to say that the error was that it should read "WA State Supreme Court's ruling..." instead of the possessive form used.
