Re: The Butt Heard Round the World

Posted by on July 10 at 14:15 PM

One group’s answer to Anthony’s million dollar question about the World Cup head-butt…

The Paris-based anti-racism advocacy group SOS-Racism issued a statement Monday quoting “several very well informed sources from the world of football” as saying Materazzi called Zidane a “dirty terrorist.” It demanded that FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, investigate and take any appropriate action.

let's all hold our breath until the Paris based advocacy group gets their wish whether hot headed soccer playes call at each other with racist slurs... and while they're at it perhaps they should "investigate" violent reactioin.

I can believe it. Those filthy wops are always stereotyping.

If Zidane had any wit, he would've replied, "Yeah, and I'm gonna fly my cockpit into your mom's World Trade Center after the match, while I strangle her with your old baby blanket."

I'd imagine Materazzi would've had a harder time controlling HIS temper after that.

Trash talking isn't exactly new to sports. I'm suprised Zidane couldn't keep his head in such a critical situation.

After seeing this shocking (to me, at least) ESPN report on racism among European soccer fans, I'm a little more sympathetic to Zidane. Apparantly, it is not unusual to have an entire stadium chanting "monkey" at black players. Link:

Italians throw bananas on the pitch when black players touch the ball. They also erupt in oo-oo-oo monkey chants. They display swastika banners, are rewarded by Nazi salutes from some of the more egregiously offensive Fascist players.

But what set Zidane off, I think, was the tittie twister that Materazzi gave him seconds before the head butt. You could see it on one of the longer replays.

I love Italy and Italians but Italian soccer is dirty, mean, and cheating as a matter of course. Zidane's grotesque foul at least had the virtue of being straightforward and open.

Italian soccer is dirty, mean, and cheating as a matter of course dirty, mean, and cheating as a matter of course.

and rigged

and racist. seems like the dego Lazio supporters in Rome are back to their old selves.

I actually witnessed Lazio fans throwing bananas at black players and doing Nazi salutes and not just a few fans, I would say half the stadium in Rome. I also saw it, to a smaller degree in Firenzia.

Say what you will, but I have never seen crap like that in a Football, Baseball or Basketball game here. Maybe in single a Louisiana, but not in major stadiums.
