Brendan, you should visit Austin. Not only are they kinder towards (and more appreciative of) their music scene, they love the bats too—they even have a statue of one:

I cannot, however, testify to the strength of their theater scene.

while you're there, catch a show at the alamo drafthouse. its one of the things i miss the most about my lovely, lovely hometown.

and go to barton springs, because i know its f-ing hot there right now. :)

Austin has a pretty healthy theatre scene for its size:

FYI: Vortex/Planet Theater, Subterranian, The Company, Physical Plant, Runamock & Critical Mass are all fairly edgy "fringe" type theatres that might be good for a view if you have the time.

Austin's always fun.

But, Fremont's building a giant interactive planetary system, so maybe the bat will get lonely and decide to fly north? It can perch on top of Lenin or the Rocket if it wants.

romanticize all you'd like, but austin was still in texas the last time I was there. therefore, it sucks.

Eastern Washington is not my idea of paradise. However, Austin is indeed in Texas and Texas does suck...ass...hard....

But Austinites do support their bands and appreciate their existence, and don't waste as much time ranting about how good we have it the way we seem to always do. But their unconditional love is also trying at times - since sometimes things do just suck, period.

Texas does not "suck...ass...hard". I recommend Kerby Lane on Kerby Lane and get the migas breakfast. Waterloo for some great cd shopping and the Greenbelt for a cool dip to escape the Texas sun.

To all "true texans": PLEASE CEDE. we don't need or want you. you are ruining this country and the entire planet. quit driving those stupid F-350s, which don't even compare to your giant egos in size. your pathetic "texas pride" makes me sick. what are you proud of? the blights of your culture on all of humanity? Take GW home and build a fucking wall between yourselves and the rest of us. thanks!

Yes, but they honor their bats. That's what counts.

Dude, GWB isn't Texan. He's a Yankee wannabee.

Real texans know that.

Austin is completely different than other cities in Texas, kids. To compare it to the overall mindset or political persuations of the state as a whole is simplistic. Austin is a goddamn liberal oasis. Too damn hot these days, but obscenely liberal nonetheless.
