How Fat Are Americans?

Posted by on July 25 at 13:13 PM

We’re so fat that Xrays no longer penetrate our bodies.

More and more obese people are unable to get full medical care because they are either too big to fit into scanners, or their fat is too dense for X-rays or sound waves to penetrate, radiologists reported on Tuesday.

With 64 percent of the U.S. population either overweight or obese, the problem is worsening, [said] Dr. Raul Uppot, a radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. “We noticed over the past couple of years that obesity was playing a role in our ability to see these images clearly,” Uppot said in a telephone interview.

Don't worry, Germany is catching up.

go burbs!

I read somewhere that the fattest people on earth now are the Greeks.

Up the power. Let them get cancer.

Why do you hate America, FNARF?
U S A! U S A! U S A!

Actually, most Greeks I've met aren't fat. Except the ones at the UW.

Well, they'll be ill-prepared for any hardship (as the American infrastructure continues to break down). Perhaps they'll make good eating until we can transition over to a Havana-style urban micro-agriculture.

And yet there is a debate on whether it is insensitive for physicians to tell kids that they are fat...

I so did not need to know this. People are starving to death all over the world, and we're so fat that doctors can't locate our internal organs.

...sigh...

It's not just a problem for X-rays machines. Americans are getting so fat that frequently defibrilators are proving ineffectual; current can't pass between the paddles & through the heart because many people's body mass is so large the electricity actually finds a shorter path to ground.

Also, performing CPR on the morbidly obese is nearly impossible, since there is so much fat in the way that it becomes a difficult to compress the rib cage sufficiently to manually pump the heart.

From Medical News Today: "Italy and Greece are among the top five countries in the child obesity league (the others are in the Middle East and Chile)."

According to WHO, the countries with the highest obesity rates are: Tonga/Nauru, Samoa, Jordan, Niue, Qatar, French Polynesia, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, UAE, Cook Island, Lebanon, Greece, Panama, Paraguay, Albania, Malta, Bahrain, and the US.

Comte, I believe that is what scientists call 'natural selection'

Dammit, Savage! Think of all the teenage girls you've just driven to anorexia!

Well, not OUR bodies. I'm in decent shape and I gather you are as well, Dan.

But as for the morbidly obese remainder of this country... yeesh.
