Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dress to be Auctioned

The Givenchy-designed dressed that Audrey Hepburn wore in the opening scenes of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is being auctioned off to benefit a children’s charity.

While I appreciate the iconic status of that striking black number, I’d be much more excited about the prospect of owning this pink number she wears later in the movie:

And let’s not forget about those amazing hats. I’d never have the balls to wear one of these, but I still think they’re pretty spectacular:

But the item that I’ve always coveted the most are her earplugs. Satin earplugs with tassles, for chrissakes. Every girl should own a pair of these:

I should hope you'd not have the balls to wear one. Now Eli or Josh, Maybe.

Eh, maybe if she twirled 'em.

I've always thought she was beautiful...especially in that film. Thanks for the pictures. They brightened up my day.

Everybody loves Audrey and is always sighing over her look (as so they should). But it's possible that gets in the way of what a screen talent she really was. I just recently watched again a special DVD edition of "Charade." She is quite the comedienne in addition to being a gifted screen actor. "Charade" is a comic thriller and Audrey is always right on the money. She makes one laugh. She's good at suspense, too. No doubt about it - she's one of a kind. And although I've heard comparisons now and then with Julia Roberts (there is no comparison), there'll never be another Audrey Hepburn. Ever.

I can't believe Truman Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly Golightly, and he claimed that actors were dumb.

Truth be told, Keshmeshi, the movie Holly is both sanitized and glamourized from the Holly in the book. Holly in the book is kind of a slut, really...a gold-diggin', hillbilly slut with not a lot of scruples. I like the movie Holly much better, naturally. The one in the book isn't very likable either. Marilyn may have been more what Truman had in mind when he was writing "Breakfast."

She's great in everything -- "Sabrina", "Roman Holiday" (also Gregory Peck's and Eddie Albert's best movie), "Funny Face" (my favorite), "My Fair Lady".... As gorgeous as Grace Kelly, but able to act too. "Charade" is perfect. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Julia Roberts, gimme a break.

I second the love for Charade and Hepburn's comedic talents. Charade had a most excellent soundtrack as well...

But how much did Breakfast at Tiffany's suck? A retrograde allegory of a kept straight gigolo (whoops -- can you say he's gay, but we can't admit it on the screen) that oozes misogyny out of every silverscreened moment. And lets not even discuss some of the most racist stereotypes to be found outside of a Starwrs prequel or sequel. The asian neighbor depiction is so over the top racist that it hurts to watch it.

Truly a vile film. Truly, Capote was scum. Testament to the ability of the actoprs that this is not reviled as one of the worst things ever.

And before you jump all over me and say: "It was the decade..." Just think of some of the amazing films done by Billy Wilder at the same time. Witty, open, sexually frank, sly, mature, tragic, hysterically funny. "One, Two, Three": Amazing. "The Apartment": pure brilliance. "The Lost Weekend": harrowing, but humane.

Capote was crap. And this bile-filled bon-bon of a picture deserves to be forgotten.

Mickey Rooney's character did not age well. Any scene involving him is teeth-grindingly horrific and embarassing, true.

But the glory of the tasseled earplugs and turquoise sleepmask with long gold lashes almost make up for it. If I could find those items, I would wear them every night and feel fabulous.

That motherfucking legendary pink tiara is the HOLY GRAIL for many of us.
