Yahoo—Evil, Very Evil

Journalists in the UK call for a boycott of Yahoo

The National Union of Journalists said it sent a letter on Friday to Dominique Vidal, Yahoo Europe’s vice president, denouncing the company for allegedly providing information to Chinese authorities about journalists. The union also said it would stop using all Yahoo-operated services.

Yahoo has been cited in court decisions as supplying China’s government with information to help them identify, prosecute and jail writers advocating democracy.

Does my having a Yahoo e-mail account help Yahoo in any way? I would like to boycott them, but getting rid of an e-mail account is kind of a gigantic pain in the ass. That's me, the lazy activist.

Maybe it's time for someone to start www.houyhnhnm.com, a new, more rational and humane Web portal.

Google's done the exact same thing. Everybody does it. China's too big a potential market to worry about trivialities like human rights, justice, common decency...

ha ha, your flickr account support chinese atrocities, ha ha!

People still use Yahoo? That's the same as using Hotmail these days.

Well, no, not really the same. They have much better spam-sorting, and a gig of space.

Microsoft cooperated with the Chinese government to help silence dissent. So what? Making money is the only path to real freedom. You don't see any Microsoft employees quitting their jobs in protest.

Yahoo is a cool company and as long as it keeps making money, they'll do a lot of good for China and America.
