The Morning News

Zarqawi died about 55 minutes after the two 500-pound bombs fell on him. U.S. general says reports from Iraqis that American soldiers beat Zarqawi, such as appeared in this L.A. Times story, are “baloney.”

Three Gitmo prisoners managed to hang themselves Sunday.

More War on Terror: ACLU challenges the constitutionality of the NSA’s wiretapping.

From the War on Another Terror: The USA Today has a pessimistic report on the chances of Democrats beating Republicans in gubernatorial races.

Speaking of bad omens, say hi to Alberto, batting leadoff in what’s sure to be another power-packed summer lineup of tropical storms/hurricanes.

There’s a cell phone ring that only kids can hear. If only Hilary Duff could hit that note…

The U.S. soccer team faces the Czech Republic in its World Cup opener today. If geo-politics plays a role in fan support (and it always does at the World Cup), then we’re not going to have the crowd in our corner.

Three Gitmo prisoners managed to hang themselves Sunday.

My favorite soundbite came from the Pentagon, calling the three suicides "an act of war".

Yup, those three dangerous detainees really did a number on us, the fuckers.

Totally unrelated:

Did anyone catch Hong Tran, Mark Wilson, and Aaron Dixon on Laura Flanders Saturday?

Is it a Quagmire yet?

How about a Failure?

Let's have a victory parade and LEAVE.

While I routinely lie about my age, I can still hear that obnoxious tone.

It sounds like computer monitor failing.

I am completely against this senseless genocidal war against Iraq.

But.

If they didnt beat the crap out of a dying Zarqawi than they should have, and if they did, than thats ok.

If anybody deserved a beat down, it was him. I know its unfair to beat a jihadist who has just been hit with a 500 pound bomb and whose lungs have just exploded causing massive internal bleeding. But, hey, he showed no mercy to slicing throats and blowing up innocent Iraqis so the least he could have expected was a beat down.

I know I would've.

Will in Seattle...

Q. What do Pike Place Politics and Cowardice have in common?

A. Will in Seattle

Seme beat me to it (no pun intended). If anyone deserved to get stomped on while suffering massive injuries from a bomb attack, it was him. But the linked LA times story does NOT contain any such allegations.

Stomping? CPR, alas.

Act of war? The choreographed suicides were called acts of "asymetric" warfare, probably because the heads of the dead flopped over to the side.

Found a story that does talk about Zarqawi beating allegations:

dude, I'm not connected with Pike Place Politics, that's the other Will - if it's Will in Seattle, it's me. I'm the same on WashPost, Seattle Times, Seattle PI.

And I served while you swerved, SomeGuy.
