The Burner Rally

Here are a couple of images from Darcy Burner’s noon rally at Westlake Plaza, an event designed to provide a counter-point to President Bush’s mid-day Medina fundraiser for Burner’s opponent, Dave Reichert.

Burner cast herself as the candidate who would stand up to the president, rather than stand with him. “Together, we are going to stop George Bush,” she told the crowd. State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz was there and, as usual, he was good for a rabid quote: “This administration is nothing but a second-rate, jewlery store smash-and-grab robbery.” (Pelz is pictured below, with Burner.)

How short was this "rally"? I was down there at 12:15 and Burner & Pelz were nowhere to be found.

And why was it in Seattle?

The rally lasted about 20 minutes. There were about 300 - 400 people there.

I have no issue with it being held in Seattle as this was about getting Burner exposure, and doing so in a place people could get to easily from their work places makes sense to me.

It started raining just after the speakers finished speaking, so I believe Darcy header across the street to some cover for some additional interviews with the press.

Anyone take any pictures?? If so do you have them posted any where?

The rally was in Seattle because most of Darcy Burner's supporters live in Seattle. If Burner was running for Congress in Seattle, I would choose her over the incumbent if I lived in the 7th district.

Richard Pope - Wrong, as usual. I was at the rally, and I'm from the 8th and I saw a lot of people there from my district.

BTW Eli, did Stefan ask for your permission to use your photo at his site? (www.soundpolitics.com/archives/006366.html)

Doesn't even provide an attribution giving you credit for it.

LOL photo property disputes. Unless Eli plans on selling said photos for profit, Daniel, I don't think there's a case there. Choose your battles: there are better things to jump on Shark for.

Gomez - not making a case, just letting Eli know. He can make a case as he wishes.

I assure you, Daniel, that if Eli does, he'd be wasting his time.

Did Darcy talk about where she stands on issues or did she just rail against the current Administration?

Give me some good reasons why someone should vote for Darcy, based on her own statements.

Well, you COULD try going to her website, and reading what she has to say yourself, but I suppose it's easier to sit here and cast veiled aspersions.

Here, I'll help you out a little. From www.darcyburner.com:
"We can take this country in a new direction by:

* Helping families who work hard and play by the rules get ahead through investments in education, healthcare, and training our workers for new jobs with good wages;
* Holding our government accountable by requiring that it be open and honest with the American people it serves;
* Achieving real energy independence and breaking our addiction to oil by making investments to make us a world leader in the growing market of next generation energy;
* Committing to a strong, intelligent, far-sighted national defense which uses our military strength wisely and shares the international burdens of power in smarter ways through diplomacy, alliances and international investment."

Veiled aspersions? Yes, I know about Darcy's website. If I can find this one, its not any harder to find hers.

My first question in particular asked if she was just all about "stopping George Bush" or actually presenting solutions at the rally. Its not too difficult to get many Seallites excited these days. Just go off against George Bush.
