African-American Voters Scrubbed by Secret GOP Hit List

One group of voters wrongly identified by the Republicans as registering to vote from false addresses: servicemen and women sent overseas.

Here’s how the scheme worked: The RNC mailed these voters letters in envelopes marked, “Do not forward”, to be returned to the sender. These letters were mailed to servicemen and women, some stationed overseas, to their US home addresses. The letters then returned to the Bush-Cheney campaign as “undeliverable.”

The lists of soldiers of “undeliverable” letters were transmitted from state headquarters, in this case Florida, to the RNC in Washington. The party could then challenge the voters’ registration and thereby prevent their absentee ballots being counted.

A check of the demographics of the addresses on the “caging lists,” as the GOP leaders called them indicated that most were in African-American majority zip codes.

I remember studying the corruptness of past elections as if it was some quaint, almost comical chapter of our past. Stuffing ballot boxes, hardy har har. Well it's comforting to know things never change. If you really, really need to win an election you don't have to rely on those damn fickle voters.

So the theory is that somebody in the RNC sat around and went, "I know why we're losing this election! It's all those damn black military voters! If we could find a way to prevent them from voting, George Bush would win!" Really, this is our best theory to explain this vaguely interesting phenomenon? This is what Democrats spend their time doing? Good god, no wonder they keep losing elections.

actually, there was a concerted effort to do outreach, including having ship's officers hold up sending out ship's mailbags from naval ships, for all officers, given that officers tend to be more R than D, whereas the enlisted tend to be more typical of American voters.

So, as a strategy, disenfranchising targetted precincts non-officer military voters was used effectively - in many ways, it's possible the only reason Slade lost to Maria was they pulled the WA mil votes to use for FL (since as mil they could reregister and vote in FL).

Not the 'only' reason Slade lost to Kaka Maria ... other reasons being EnRon Sims' poodle (aka Dean Logan) & the usual array of progressive dead voters & progressive felon voters.

But isn't it droll that Palast has only recently discovered interest in military voters billeted overseas? Where were he & his righteous indignation in Y2K when miltary voters were being disfranchised by Al (Let. Every. Vote. Count) Gore who did not want to count their votes due to the technicality that right-leaning ballots didn't have the right postmark?

& isn't it droll that, despite hysterical shrieking by RFK Jr. & by John Conyers that Ohio was stolen in 2004, the only proven 2004 disfranchisement & fraud was done by 'Crats & their tire slashers?

& as for those inner-city voting machines, those in Florida & Ohio were emplaced by inner-city Democrat political machines, the same people who designed the Butterfly Ballot & who impregnated the chads.
