Hate the Smoking Ban? Move to Las Vegas

Posted by on June 8 at 18:21 PM

Where you can smoke at the bars, smoke at the urinals, smoke at the gambling tables, smoke at the restaurants… And where, in a complete inversion of the non-smoker reward system that’s taking shape in other cities, the smoking rooms at my hotel have views like this:

While the non-smoking rooms, as I’ve discovered the hard way, have views like this:

Eli--I truly sympathize with your complaint, but after all, you are in Las Vegas--not exactly a bastion of healthy living. However, I'd be willing to bet there's a growing movement of businesses who are catering to the growing non-smoking population. I'm guessing the sordid charms of Sin City are already the least of your concerns, but if you ever go again, you should consider Harrah's, MGM Grand, or the Bellagio, all of which go out of their way to cater to non-smokers. And the Westin, though somewhat pricey, is entirely smoke-free. But a smoking ban in Vegas? Probably not gonna happen.

Fuck that. Go downtown and hang out at the Gold Spike, where you'll see chain-smoking grannies dragging their oxygen tanks around from penny machine to penny machine, guys bleeding all over the roulette table, and guys fighting while falling over backwards because they're so fucking drunk. Those strip places are for Midwestern fatties.

If there is such a movement, Hannah, no one I know back home in Vegas has seen it in any form, and many of them work full-time in casinos.

Smoking harms all living beings. Las Vegas wastes more water than any other city. We must all stop harming our bodies with eating meat and smoking.

Eli you've already harmed the environment by flying to Las Vegas, every day you stay there contributes to global warming. Please consider how your actions today will harm the seventh generation.

Many in Seattle would honor you for leaving that conference in protest.

god bless las vegas. i am so glad it is still there, even if it has changed dramatically over the years.

it is nice to know that there is still a place left for the pleasures of sinful behavior.
