Folgers: Good to the Last Drop….of LSD!

Posted by on June 16 at 9:32 AM

Yes, yes, those creepy Burger King ads brought a fresh dose of surrealism to contemporary advertising, but nothing prepared me for this.

Hat tip, as ever, to Jake.

Ahhhh...that takes me back.

How'd they get the Polyphonic Spree to all wear yellow?

folgers will sneak into your room as you sleep, and rape you awake!

Holy Christ. The one that creeped up to the guy's bed was really frightening.

Seriously, I like my morning cup o' joe as much as the person, but if I had to wake up to something like that every day, some perky yellow coffee elves would get their bright, smiley faces totally punched in but good.

I LOVE IT!!! But I'm a sucker for anything with a jingle.

btw, when the cute white guy in the boxers is is sitting on his bed, about 2/3 of the way through, it sort of looks like you can see his weenie.

The yellow folks look like culties! Join our cult!

That ad is shitting butterflies on the order of my world.

Wait, this is a real ad? It looks like something made by Andy Dick or David Cross.

I wondered if it were real too. But toleratemornings.com is a P&G registered website, so it must be the real deal.

This footage doesn't show the shooting deaths.

What is it? An ad for suicide?

I LOVE IT!!!!!

But that's why I don't drink coffee. It makes the funny yellow people stalk me.

I just experienced an incredible range of emotions watching that ad. Bravo, Folgers.

Holy.Fucking.Shit.

Wow. I mean, just...wow.

Fat yellow homunculi sneaking in through the window are EXACTLY why I keep a shotgun under the bed. That is too fucking creepy for words.

And Catalina's right, you can definitely see that one guy's pee-pee through the gaping rent in his boxer shorts.

Makes me wish I drank Folgers...just so I could stop. I hate it when I have no means of punishing a corporation for something that offensive.

yeah, that's fine, but can we talk about the brown finger Butterfinger ads out right now... Disgust...

Saatchi & Saatchi is the ad agency that made this. Charles Saatchi (one of the two founding brothers) was the main funder behind the "Young British Artists" movement in the 1990's. That movement, simply called the YBA by supercool insiders, is famous for David Hirsh's tigershark in formaldhyde and Chris Ofili's Virgin Mary rendered in cow dung, the latter of which sparked a huge uproar when it came to the Brooklyn Museum in the 1990's. Giuliani tried (and failed, thankfully) to get public funding of that museum pulled because of the Ofili piece's "tastelessness". Incidentally, the travelling show was called "Sensation". Moral of the story: you're always going to get something wild, crazy, bizarre, and totally awesome when it's got the name "Saatchi" attached to it.
