Bad Comet

Posted by on June 7 at 12:11 PM

I walked by the Comet Tavern and saw an employee sweeping all of their patrons’ cigarette butts into the public street. Disgusting. Why can’t they just put some butt cans outside like other bars do and dispose of them in the garbage? Get a clue, Comet, and try and be a better neighbor.

From what I understand, butt cans outside the doors is illegal - it encourages people to smoke within 25 feet of the doors. Just one more example of how the 25 foot rule is lame! As a smoker and frequent club goer, I don't really mind the "no smoking" rule indoors, but the 25 feet from ANY opening is plain stupid - especially when it doesn't apply if your "walking by" the opening as opposed to standing / sitting on a patio.

next time get your broom and dust pan, sweep em up. and mail them to the owner.

creative solutions are the best solutions.

Seattle Smoker nailed it. Not having ash trays outside like before the ban is as dumb as a dog having to take a crap on field turf.

Next time file a complaint with Public Health at King County, and tell them what time of day you saw it, so they can bust them.

Good neighbors treat their neighbors well. Bad neighbors get to live in hell.

I've watched Safeway employees do this sort of stuff too. They just walk around the store with a leaf blower pushing all their trash (butts, food wrappers, etc) into the street. Fuckers.

Mason reminded me of a funny scene I saw in my old neighborhood back in Vegas. I drove past this tract of government housing (yeah, I lived in a REAL nice neighborhood) and some guy was blowing grass, dust and trash off the sidewalk and onto the street.

While driving back, I saw a street sweeper blowing the dust and trash right back onto the sidewalk. And so the circle of trash life goes.

re: butts... sweep them up into a dustpan and put them in a trash can. It shouldn't be that big a deal.

If ashcans outside the door are so illegal, then how come the Virginia Inn still has ashtrays on all the outdoor tables - any one of which is well within 25' of the (open on nice days) front door.

And how come everytime I walk by there on a nice day and think about having a beer outside and enjoying the awesome view of Elliot Bay over the Market, some joker is out there smoking?

Why doesn't management - or the Health Dept - do something about it?

Especially since this is an establishment that even before the ban had signage boasting, "We Be Smoke Free."

"Scratch an American and find a cop. There is no/ Generation gap." -Philip Whalen

Yeah New Urbanism, what kind of joker asshole would dare to smoke OUTDOORS?? Fuck you.

Also, follow the link to a picture of your hero enjoying a cigarette - gasp! - indoors.
