And the Prayer Warrior Fails, Too

Posted by on June 6 at 17:17 PM

Not only did Tim Eyman fail this afternoon in his quest to repeal Washington’s gay civil rights law. The Prayer Warrior (aka Ken Hutcherson) failed as well.

Dear Prayer Warrior,

We need 112,400 more signatures for Referendum 65 by 5:00 pm TODAY! Please pray that God will bring in three times that amount!

Your Pastor,
Hutch

Here’s the best that the prayer warriors, and all the other like-minded individuals in this state, could do: 105,103 signatures for a referendum that needed 112,000 signatures to get on the ballot.

Wait -- so God can create a referendum that requires more signatures than He can provide? Mind ... blown.

I'm sure the prayer warriors will blame it on the devil since today is
6-6-6.

Yeah, I saw God collecting signatures at the QFC in Wallingford. He really seemed put out when I explained to him what the initiative would actually do. He figured it had something to do with stopping global warming, you know, something which actually does threaten his planet.

My take is that Hutch is in his hell already... Maybe this will encourage his move out of the liberal bastion of Washington to a place a little more tolerant of people like him...

I think the Prayer Warrior should go enlist and serve over in Iraq for a few tours, that will help him get back on track.

Or he'll come home in a pine box.

Both would be good.

Eli... 105,103? That was Tim's count, and he's a liar. I bet he didn't get half that.

I can't believe any journalist would repeat his numbers after what he did yesterday.

Is there any reason Tim Eyman would give an accurate number? A personality like his would make whatever statement best suits his purposes. It would best suit his purposes to say, "We only missed out by a few percent of what we needed - you Prayer Warriors better pray harder next time! And look what you did, you who were thinking of signing my petition, but didn't - you better do what I tell you next time!" He deserves nothing more than for noone to ever pay attention to him again, except perhaps as sketchy evidence of what the pro-bigotry crowd is up to.

Well, to my buddies Eli, Greg, and Goldy, I'm going to pour myself a nice double whiskey and contemplate Timmy in hell while I sip on it.

Next up: The battle for marriage equality, and we're going to win that one, too. Oh, yeah we are!

On NPR half an hour ago, the reporter stated that Eyman said he had 105,000 signatures.

uh, what was that, Darth?

You know, normally I'm a pretty mellow, polite guy. But Tim Eyman and Pastor Hutch can both Fuck Off and Die as far as I'm concerned.

I'd be curious to have you report how many signatures the election division actually reports once they tally the numbers.

Otherwise, please don't ever mention Eyman's name in the Slog again.

what this tells us is that less than 2% of the washington state populace are bigots. And that the bigots here are a very loud and obnoxious minority thanks to the pandering media that covers their sorry asses.

HA-ha!

Wow. What a loser. Any decent grass roots organizer could have pulled together enough signatures in time. He must have zero intention to work in politics again after the Darth Vader stunt.
Didn't he realize that if he failed he'd have all the news stations talking about his failure over the top of him in a Darth Vader costume? Priceless.
Sadly the print and tv news oultlets have ths story wrong in part. They all say simply that this means the measure can't appear this election. In fact there is no no possibility of a referendum. That possibility expired at 5:00 today, 90 days after the end of legislative session that passed the laws. At this point he'd have to start from sctratch witn an initiative, not a referendum. That would require twice as many signatures and would have no effect on the current status of the law.

Whoop it up sickos! You think you've won? No, you didn't win nothing. We just didn't win this one this time.

Oh - and, in case you didn't realize it, the law banning sex with animals goes into effect tomorrow, and given that it's 6/6/6 anyways, might as well enjoy your last chance to screw horseflesh legally.
Of course the horse won't understand why it was a one night stand, but well, that's not so unusual in any case, is it?

you west coast kids need to watch the daily show tonight. it just ended over here on the east coast, and it's an all gay marriage episode. bill bennett is on the show, and jon eviserates him. bill even admits that gay marriage is "on the way." you could even say that he's betting on it.

har har har

Rev Joe, Dart Eyman and Rev. Ken are three of a kind …. And blaming each other for the total failure to exploit homophobia is comic opera and anti morality play of the best sort.

Yes, the devil is in the details. And in the enterprise. Darth Eyman and bigoted co horts are simply on the wrong side of the issue.

This is the FIFTH or SIXTH failure over 20 years to get enough signature to use the Initiative process or Referendum process to bash and slash from various anti gay combos. When do they admit the voters don't want to sign their petitions? That even thousands of church goers under pressure from the hierarchy did not put out.

Eyman was not the problem en toto -- the theory that you can ride homophobia to political victory in Washington State has proven a badly flawed no win strategy.

It is a great victory for gay and lesbian folks. Today and over time. We won -- and there is joy and relief in queerdom today.

Yes, great relief. Now, were will all the gay money and political energy channel between now and Nov? To Democrats, folks, to Democrats.

Please NOTE – the DEMOCRATS holding firm against the anti gay marriage fiasco in the U. S. Congress.

In this election cycle, Queers and Latinos will propel the Democrats into offices across America, a healthy swing vote amalgam good for decades……animosity toward the Republican party has reached flat out scorn and total avoidance from gay and lesbian voters. Black community as well. Latinos soon to follow.

Interesting to note that Eyman raised 4,000.00 for his effort and the Gay Community counter effort was at 120,000.00 and building rapidly to defeat him in Nov if needed. Energy, money and organizing resources were at the ready on a massive scale state wide.

If money is the mothers milk of politics, Darth and company has been stuck with sucking dry titty….or titties…..as you like.

Washington Won't Discriminate had gotten past early jitters and was ready for the big time all out effort to defeat the referendum attempt -- beware Rev. Joe, Rev. Ken and new blowhard, Rev Randy.

My favorite American Revolution slogan is ” Don't tread on me” — seems to be about right as a warning to the bigots and homophobes, in church or secular. Beware, beware.

Yesterday's victory for gay and lesbian people is due in large part because of Eyman. Left to their own devices and their own means, I have no doubt Washington's mega-churches would have been able to pull it together. Eyman and his anti-tax andti-government crusaders sunk this one.

Also, it remains to be seen if Washington Won't Discriminate was ready for the campaign. Communication was a mess, there wasn't any obvious planning outside of raising money, and the entire system was a closed operation. Through in the usual back bitting in the queer community and you have a very uncertain situation.

Rather than giving credit to the new found tolerance of Washingtonians we should be thanking Eyman for screwing up and screwing his allies.

I will not send money to Democrats. It was Democrat Clinton. who signed the Defense of Marriage Act and Gore defended it in 2000. In 2004 Kerry opposed gay marrriage The Democrats cannot be trusted with our rights. I will send my money to grass roots efforts in the gay community as I urge others to do.

Those so called mega chruches have failed in doing signatu drives more than once...... WWD was taking shape nicely, wilh field work in
Spokand, and Tacoma and north and south. Typically, little in Seattle yet. So Seattle whines as usual -- there is nothing good.

As to the DEMS - thanks your sorry asses they just were the reason the Senate just voted down the anti marriage amendment. Solid as a rock at the frontline support.

If anyone wants God like perfection in politics, better do social work.

I am delighted to hear Gay Pride speeches in the US Senate and to win a vote will all but one Dem on our side. They will get my money - to a better future.

Tim Eyman and his "Prayer Warriors" would be laughable if they were not so detremental to the purpose of the true church. What the Rev and his buch were actually doing was trying to put God in a box, trying to force God to do their bidding by moving "the faithful" to sign the petition.

If Eyman believes homosexuality is wrong and homosexuals sinners and the proposed legislation is wrong then he and his bunch should have been praying for repentance and reconciliation rather than the forcing of a political policy.

Reverend Buddy, Prayer Warrior.
