Warning: These Videos Will Ruin Your Day

Posted by on May 22 at 12:24 PM

To fit with today’s Slog theme, I guess I should say, “Might induce vomiting & crying.”

Here are some videos that were played in church yesterday to rally people against the anti-discrimination bill.

Is it just me, or does that attorney chick have crazy eyes?

I think she was probably born a man.

Here is the bio for that creepy attorney
http://www.elmlaw.com/atty.phtml?id=16

Its funny that she considers discrimination protections agaisnt GBLTQ folks as arbitrary and based on behavior choices wereas she doesn't think that protections for christians are similar. The really funny thing is that she has it exactly backwards. Religion is a choice (still should be protected though), wereas sexual orientation and gender identity clearly have some biological basis.

Wow. I kills me that people are THAT afraid of The Gays.

Interesting to note, RE: this attorney:

The "Values" page of her firm's Web site lists the Bailey-Boushay House as one of the community endeavors it supports.

I hate Christians

To fix all of this crap we (as a society) need to stop connecting marriage with legal civil unions. civil unions should be allowed between anyone who can sign the paperwork, pay the court fee; be it man man, woman woman or whatever. leave "marriage" for the church and let them put whatever restrictions they want on it...

More fear from the RR. Quite a leap from legalizing protection for homos to fear of repressing pulpit-pounding hatemongering as, well, "hate speech", which it is, though where are the calls from the ACLU et al. to repress it? Let these bigots say whatever they want. You can legally say, for instance, that you'd like to kill somebody, but it's quite another matter to actually do it. And she's warning that it might be illegal to act on one's beliefs re: homosexuality. Not freedom to express, mind, but freedom to act. Creepiest shit I've heard in days.

Right on, Travis! That's what I've been saying for years. Let the various churches decided who gets to partake in the "sacrament of marriage" and get the government the hell out of it. Civil Unions for everyone.

Except that's like settling for New Coke while the hateful zealots get to drink all the Classic Coke.

Only if you are brainwashed to like Coke, Richard. I'm a Pepsi boy myself.

In other words, I could give a Flying Fuck about the "sacrament of marriage". Actually, I would much rather engage in a flying fuck (whatever that is) than be "married" in any church. Ironically enough, there are several brands of the prevailing mythology that would glady marry us, but no government sanction of that "marriage".

OTOH, I would very much like to be eligble for survivor benefits on my partner's pension and SS if he should die before me (I haven't ironed all those shirts and paid 1/2 the mortgate all these years for nuthin!) And vice-versa, of course.

I was raised rather strictly religious, and I understand perfectly why the right calls it "gay marriage": They are playing into the vast hordes who don't know any gays, don't have any particular love or hate for gays, but don't want "the government" messing with their church. I know it sounds trivial, but words matter, and the conservatives know that. And we, by insisting on "marriage", play right into their hands.

Get the government out of the sacrament business.

Excellent way of putting it - get the government out of the sacrament business. Love it!
