Don't forget: Dan Savage Calls Jamie Pederson 'dishonest weasel'

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/271709_seattleleg26.html

Next time you wanna sabotage someone's campaign, try a little more subtlety.

The troops to Timor was something coming for a long time... Australia has put such a stranglehold on that country it's insane. I hate to say it, but their Prime Minister makes (puke!) Bush look good most of the time.

The really disgusting part of the story is that Timor has plenty of gas reserves to help transform it, but the Aussie govt has screwed them in a boundary dispute (the gas is in the Timor Straight, between Oz and E Timor) and not only did the Oz gov't throw aside most tenants of international law to grab the bulk of the gas, the Timorese were forced to allow Oz to ship all gas to Australia for prccessing.

BTW, if you want to see a country with some real *fine* immigration policy, our *mates* do a real fine job of rounding up desperate refugees... and bribing poor countries like Nauru (ever heard of that one!) to take them. Or the fine case of detaining a mentally ill citizen of their country in a camp...

Wow, I'm really glad that guy killed that shark. If only we could all kill enough big things to make us feel manly.

Congratulations to the man who feels the need to reduce an already dwindling shark population and gene pool for his own self-aggrandizing.

To equate "Cold Blooded Killers" with the US Marines over a few bad apples in the barrel is a pretty low blow Dan.

To Napolean: Done.

To Mapleleaf: I'm referencing John Murtha's description of the marines inolved, which the right wingers attempted to beat him up about. The marines involved killed in cold blood...

Indeed, those few marines are. But the way you worded and positioned the link draws the inference I described, you know it does. Such are the headlining tactics of the drive-by media.

Better now, Mapleleaf?

You're a sweatheart Dan ......:-)

Any word on how Maria Cantwell voted on the Hayden confirmation?

No. Wait. Let me guess.

The truth comes out (pardon the expression). Looks like Dan's giant ego got hurt by lil' ol' Jamie Pederson.

"[Dan Savage] admitted some past animosity because Pedersen had been quoted saying Savage was the wrong public face for the gay marriage issue, but said that exchange had nothing to do with his blog entry."

Uh-huh.

And when somebody shines a light on Dan's hurt feelings, what does Dan do? He says about his blog comments about Pederson: "I was drunk; I'd had a few beers at the street fair."

Who's the weasel now?

Hm. I hardly hid it—I wrote a story about it when it happened, and recounted the events in my last book.

And it stands to reason that Pedersen, who was a weasel to me, would treat his opponents with the same weaselly way. But hurt my feelings? Nah. I'm made of tougher stuff than, say, Pedersen, who couldn't admit that he screwed up. He went crying to national leaders and now the PI—which put this on the front page? And I'm making mountains out of molehills? Sheesh. Slow news decade?

Napoleon XII: Nicely presupposed. Cantwell voted "Nay". But that doesn't matter; you can criticize her for voting "Yea", and if that turns out to be wrong you can blame her for it anyways. Or something. Right?

Speaking of cold blooded killers, how about Salon's piece on a series that was thoroughly ignored by the mainstream media: The story of the US Tiger Force, a death-squad like unit that was unleashed on the Vietnam country side, whose sole raison d’être was to kill civilians, including children, who some Marines admit they chopped their heads off. Sounds like cold blooded killers to me Mapleleaf. You people want to send your children off to war and then you throw a hissy fit when you find out that war is dirty and that combat weary soldiers do bad things. Duh!

It is worthy to note that Rummy and Dick were involved in covering that story up as well, when they worked for Ford. Props to the small Midwest paper that broke the story on the death squad which was US Tiger Force. Small papers can have an impact, but sometimes theyre too busy saving the Danish.

The authors say, and I agree, that the longer that troops stay in combat, the more brutal they become and the more that the kind of brutality is encouraged by the leadership.

No offense, but how can you guys supported the invasion sleep at night? You people should be out there trying to build an anti war movement that is free of loons and hippies. It’s the least you can do.

Salon’s piece is here:

awww, did widdle Napolean get his feewings hoit?

Let me sum up:

Iraq: We lied about everything, say Bush and Blari, but trust us about the lies on Iran and that we're not losing Iraq badly right now, even though the world press (censored in US) shows we are losing badly and are probably going to blow it in Afghanistan too since we took our eyes off the prize. Osama's safe in Pakistan, which we pardoned for selling nukes to terrorist nations, but ignore that.

American Troops: since we're cowards ourselves, we're having them die in our places so we can get rich from no-bid contracts to our friends who will give us kickbacks once we leave office.

American Marines: we're having the Marines investigate if they killed innocent civilians. Sure.

Michael Hayden: he will hide our crimes.

AIDS: chimps are to blame, not Michael Hayden's agency.

Al Gore: Film star, next pres.

Al Gore II: oh, and Barak Obama's the veep.

Australia: we bought Bush's lies.

Iran: Bush is lying, you morons.

Sharks: still endangered. Men should drink when hunting them.

and don't think I'm anti-military, I served seven years voluntarily, and enjoyed it immensely, even doing some counter-terrorism ops, and I see severely wounded vets when I visit the VA Med Center every few weeks. Some are my friends.

emerson derth is right. you toss off a drunken post that trashes a candidate you had already had run-ins with but without admitting the history between you two? rather than downplaying it the next day you fan the flames by restating your case. when jamie takes your accusations seriously and tries to do some damage control, you cry that he's making a big deal out of nothing and then broadcast that all over rather than letting it die. then when a pi reporter calls, giving the whole story more (and potentially more damaging) attention than it would ever get if it went out in the stranger's print edition, you play innocent but further restate your points to the mainstream media. then you act as if all you did was post a few things on a blog and other people, not you, made a big deal out of it? wow. i'm not a pederson supporter at all, but you are the true weasel in this one.

Seme: .... I'm only taking issue with over-generalizations... why isn't that a good thing?

Okay. Let's unpack Jamie Pedersen's statements to the Seattle Times a couple of years ago—it's not so much about hurt feelings (although I was pissed) than it is about... well, check back later. I'll do yet another Slog post about it. If Pedersen's rimjob brigade is going to make an issue out of my hurt feelings, I'm going to demonstrate that it wasn't abuot feelings so much as the lies Pedersen told and the ways he misrepresented my actions...

i'm not part of the pederson brigade.

and: "lies Pedersen told and the ways he misrepresented my actions."

who cares if this is about feelings or ideas? going back to the seattle times archives changes the point. the issue is that you two have had run ins in the past that inform your relationship today. i think that's a significant piece of info that was missing from previous posts.

Actually, WF, I pointed into the Seattle Times archives in one of these threads a couple days ago - and frankly, when you look back at the episode that Dan's going to recapitulate for us shortly, I think you'll begin to see his point about Pedersen.

You're all ignoring today's biggest story.

The brilliant Desmond Dekker is dead.

Napoleon XIII is a made-up character on an Internet message board in a somewhat remote corner of the United States. It's highly unlikely anything said or done here will hurt his/her/its feelings.

Fuck it all. I'm going drinking. My liver may bloat with cirrhosis, but at least my heart will be in good shape.

Napolean - man, what a waste of time. Why don't you just go get high in Pioneer Square instead so the mayor and council can get upset over it and the local TV news can do exposes on it?

blogs aren't for defecating on. grow up.

Awww...now you've gone and hoit my widdle feewings....

Will: World press censored in the US? This in the age of the Wide World Web, oh my!

Audacia- Stead fast and loyal

Audacia- Stead fast and loyal

I don't care if Jamie killed your dog, Dan. Drop it, he's not worth it.

Umm, Dan, I totally care if Jamie killed your dog. If he did he is much worse than a weasel!

My dog—a one-eyed, deaf toy poodle—is alive and well. And it's my son's dog, not mine...

So, what you're saying is that he maimed your son's dog?

That's even worse!

Shots fired in congressional office building!!!

Oh, wait, it was just a nail gun.

Did anyone see that premature ejac in the news this morning?

Anybody know what Dick Cheney was up to at the time?

i know we have the Net, I'm just saying whenever I get out of the country, the real news is all around, but it's shut off here, I have to search outside the US to get it.

did you like my PI letter today?
