Notes From the Prayer Warrior

Posted by on May 26 at 14:07 PM

So, the spat between Rev. Ken Hutcherson and the Lake Washington School District turned out to be far less interesting than the school district originally made it sound.

But out of that non-story comes a gift that keeps on giving…

I now have a source who has access to the regular emails that Hutch sends out to his “Prayer Warriors” group, alerting them to various goings on that they should be praying about (or praising the lord about).

You can see the original “The fight is on!!!” email here. But of course, that wasn’t the first, or the last, of the Prayer Warrior emails. I now bring you Prayer Warriors May 26 (Answered Prayers edition), Prayer Warriors May 24 (Bleeding Eyes edition), and Prayer Warriors April 27 (Eyman Rocks edition).

May 26, 2006:

Dear Prayer Warrior,

Thank God for answered prayers!

1. The school disctrict retracted their letter, admitting they were wrong!!! So, come Sunday prepared to sign the referendum.

2. Mark Landis is recovering from his seizure, and feeling fine. They located the bleeding tumor and are planning on surgery within the next month to remove it. Please continue to pray for his protection before, during, and after surgery, and for the whole family.

Your Pastor, Hutch

May 24, 2006:

Dear Prayer Warrior,

Thank you for praying for my eye appointment. God answered prayer! The bleeding has diminished, and my eyes are improving.

Pastor Hutch

April 27, 2006:

Dear Prayer Warrior,

Please pray for 112,000 signatures by June 7 for the Referendum 65, repealing Initiative 2661, which adds “sexual orientation” to discrimination laws. Pray that the Church will stand together on this and make their voices heard.

If you have not signed this yourself, please go to the Commons on Sunday and sign the petition.

Your Pastor, Hutch

I’ll keep bringing you notes from the Prayer Warrior as events (and notes) warrant…

Is it OK to pray that this dickhead has a heart attack, or something?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, please pray with me for the separation of church and state. Pray harder! You're not praying hard enough! Hallelujah!

Hah! I used to be on the Prayer Warriors email list (under a slightly assumed name and email address - my possibly future married name, you could say)... but the emails mysteriously stopped appearing about a month after I signed up... Aren't they, um, charming?

To answer your question, Seattle Native: Yes!

It seems only fair that if god gets the credit every time someone gets better he should also get the blame when they get worse.

Personally I think it is simply rude to give credit to some god as opposed to the fucking DOCTORS who treat people or the fucking SCIENTISTS who research treatments. If it was all god then wouldn’t our health and longevity be the same as it was a thousand years ago.

Hell according to recent scholarship prayer is actually detrimental to health if the subject knows about it. So please for the love of god don’t pray for me or at least don't tell me about it.

if they are Prayer Warriors, then shouldn't we report them to Homeland Security as a terrorist organization based on religious fanatacism?

I'm sure they'll love Cuba (Gitmo) ...

Nothing delights me more than this:

Dear Prayer Warrior,
Thank you for praying for my eye appointment. God answered prayer! The bleeding has diminished, and my eyes are improving.

Pastor Hutch

I want that tattooed on my face.

Reading about Hutch's eye problems reminds me that Oedipus was blinded for pride, for willful ignorance, and for believing that he was doing the work of God.

While we may be talking about a different God, the punishment still fits. I pray that justice is served, and that Hutch's eyes continue to bleed until they shrivel up like two prunes. Amen.
