Memo from Brian

Posted by on May 8 at 16:11 PM

This just in from one of our tech-support specialists:

Can you folks (or at least one of you) stop with the politics and transit debate and focus on the cute baby ducks in the pool at Cal Anderson? Please. There’s about 12 of them and they’re so tiny and fuzzy that they can’t be more than a week old. In fact, today is the first day i’ve seen them and I walk through that park daily.
Thanks,
Brian

Kim went to see them and shot this photo. She says they’re even smaller and fluffier in person.

A family of ducks (11 tiny fuzzies + mom) was recently escorted through the SAM sculpture park construction site by a group of construction dudes. Photos are at:

ah....sweet, sweet baby ducks. thanks for the nice photo but did you have to expose my soft underbelly?

I was more worried about exposing your bad grammar! ; )

that's why i work down the hall and not in the cush environs @ chez editorial.

What a coincidence. I am having a light dinner later this evening of smoked, peppered duck accompanied by a romaine lettuce salad topped with dungeness crab meat. Thank you once again for the yummy photos, Amy Kate!

awwwww.... cute. Like sugar baby love.

I want to fucking murder somebody that is so cute. SO! FUCKING! CUTE!

IT'S LIKE THEIR EYES AREN'T EVEN OPEN! Oh my GOD! I WANT TO PEEL THE SKIN OFF YOUR FACE!!!

Did Cal Anderson just rip off SU's ducks? I was wondering where they went this morning...

i think someone should organize a protest.

things this cute just one block from sad & scuzzy broadway? say it ain't so!

cal anderson's spirit lives. those little ducks are a good reminder that hope springs eternal, even in the shittiest of political times.

after such a bleak winter, this feels like the best spring EVER.

Two words: Crow Buffet. I could have sworn there were at least 14 when I saw them on Saturday.

Last year I saw a crow devouring a sparrow as three other sparrows stood by making a lot of noise, but not able to much else to help. A well-meaning passer by tried to scare the crow away by lunging toward it. The crow wasn't phased, but the sparrows were, and in the confusion the crow suddenly lurched and killed another one, just like that, snapped it's neck, then started into it.
The moral of the story: if you're going to mess with nature, you might as well make a lunch of it, which is why the picture reminds me that there is always a nice roast duck waiting for me in the ID. Cute and cuddly now, fat and juicy later.

you guys are just trying to steal page views from cute overload, aren't you?! do they beat you in traffic ranking?

Hey, don't let the guys from NSA get ahold of those cuties. They'll wire them so they can make further incursions into the Fourth Amendment. Do ducks eat perch?

I've seen better over at the Arboretum

Keep your eyes out for other urban avian returnees: Golden-Crowned and White-Crowned Finches, Lincoln Sparrows, Black-Capped Chickadees, Cooper's Hawks out for more eats, Robins making much more noise, and -- with the flying bugs newly airborne -- Violet-Green Swallows.

You'll also see many fly-overs east to west and vice-versa of Great Blue Herons. If you are a total wing-lover there are lots of webcams to watch--if you are not watching what the government is doing to you.

WEEX!! These chicklets belong on Cute Overload for sure! I saw them last night and there was a baker's dozen (that's 13 to those who don't frequent bakeries enough) plus momma.
