McGavick Not Down w/ Monday’s Immigrant March & Rally

Posted by on May 3 at 14:07 PM

From today’s : The Yakima Herald Republic

Mike McGavick, a Republican from Seattle who will likely face Cantwell in November, said in a statement before the rally that protests would likely offend more citizens.

“I fear that those Americans who are presently empathetic will become increasingly offended by disruptions of those who are not citizens,” he said.

Idiot. He probably never considered the possibility that the "disruptions" would be caused by many who are citizens.

I'm looking forward to the latino vote finally actually flexing their voting power this comming election.

It's always helpful to provide a link:

fill me in Mike McG, that statement is meant to get my vote HOW?

or do you honestly believe a citizen who votes would, never, ever, ever, find solidarity with the marchers. I guess you and GW BUSH are a lot alike, you both don't watch the news, but I do watch the news, and most reports had interviews with CITIZENS, not illegal immigrants. I don't go in for GW BUSH, and you aren't even trying at this point to get me to go for you.

Well, because after all, who do these people think they are, disrupting our traffic? I mean, how are the produce trucks supposed to get through town to deliver our cheap agricultural products if all these illegals are clogging up the streets with their looney talk about rights and fair wages and all that other nonsense?

McGavick has an interesting [or odd depending on your viewpoint] piece in the Weekly Standard on putting pressure on Iran by denying them a spot in the World Cup.

He must be on board with these nut cases.

Wait a minute, were any of you at the downtown rally? A ton of those people marching were illegals or "undocumented" workers, however you want to phrase it.

McGavick's right--marching during RUSH HOUR didn't win the participants any points with downtown commuters. Bus traffic was snarled for hours, and there were a lot of bitchy people on the bus.

He's not saying he wasn't "down" with the protesters. He was simply echoing what many people have been saying--snarling my commute and making a big rucus in downtown isn't endearing. Once--ok. Twice--and people start to ask WTF?

Patrick,

That was the point of the March, to get people to say "what the fuck GW BUSH, today, right now, give us the promise that you will veto anything that has any language about illegals being felons, about those who help illegals being felons, and how FUCKING stupid that wall idea is."

I'm sure you were equally appalled with the Irish community when they had their parade, right?

hey, mcgavick has to scapegoat somebody for something to take the heat off his piece of shit political party.

Patrick: Yes I was downtown during both rallies. Why? Because I work in the building directly across the street from the Federal Building. I didn't have a choice but to be downtown during the demonstrations. Was it a total pain in the ass getting home each night? Duh, of course it was. Was my bus late, and crowded, and full of bitchy people on those evenings? Totally. But would I have had it any other way? Hell no. Our basic rights include the freedom of speech and the freedom to assemble. The immigration marchers, regardless of their "documentation" status, have something very important to say, and I fully support their right to do so in a peaceful manner. As for choosing to do it during rush hour, I think that decision was obviously made to create the largest impact. They feel their cause is worthy of attention (and I agree). It's like shouting above your siblings to be heard at the dinner table.
