Make Shitloads More Money He Will

Posted by on May 4 at 10:05 AM

Good news for those who were (rightfully) enraged by Greedo shooting first. George Lucas has announced he’s releasing the classic, un-tinkered with versions of the first three Star Wars films on DVD.

Lucas wouldn't make shitloads of money if Star Wars dweebs didn't line up down the block for every little thing he released or sold.

Lucas swore that this would never happen. The special edition versions were his artistic vision realized, and he would never comprimise it. But in the end, he just wanted more money.

I'm really torn by this news. On the one hand, I'm mad at Lucas for so expertly getting me to pay him so many times for essentially the same thing. On the other, I am so happy that I will have the bad-ass Han Solo version on DVD!

It's simply staggering that his original "artistic vision" included a motherfucking burping frog-creature outside of Jabba's lair. What the crap.

In my younger, nerdier days such news would have been very exciting. I even let out a little "oh, whoa" when I read the headline. But now I just don't care anymore.

From the burping frog-creature, he moved on to a farting camel-creature for comic releif in episode I. The downward spiral continued.

ha ha. I already have 'em on DVD, burned from laser discs.

I'm just glad that I never shelled out for the 'remastered' versions. Now I won't feel duped/suckered/asshatted when I go and get the originals. But in a way, it's almost like the Lord of the Rings series, with their 'extended editions' and 'theatrical editions.'
Somehow giving more of my money to Peter Jackson instead of Georgie-boy makes me feel better about giving my money to anyone.

someone please explain "Greedo shooting first" to me, I don't get it

Is that a troll for the Star Wars geeks? Okay, I'll bite. In the cantina scene in the original Star Wars movie, Jabba's thug Greedo corners Han Solo and threatens him. In the original version, Han shoots and kills Greedo from under the table, establishing Han as a bad-ass who will kill you as soon as look at you. In the Special Edition, a CG laser blast is added from Greedo's gun. It fires a split second before Han does, and hits the wall next to Han's head. This establishes that Han is a good guy, who will only shoot in self defense.

Nicely done, Lark Hawk. I was just about to bite but now I don't have to, and I can point at you and laugh, geek.

I can also replace my classic, un-tinkered with VHS trilogy with the new classic, un-tinkered with DVD trilogy. There, we're even.

Now all Lucas has to do is release the classic trilogy with most of the snazzy new special effects. I couldn't stand any of the content changes made with the special edition, but I definitely prefer the CGI.
