Lest We Forget

For all my erstwhile and estimable colleagues:

If memory serves... this was a memorial issue... so the point is that The Stranger did not have artwork that week, per the norm, but choose to honor the memory of a pop-icon and thought that memorial would increase circulation numbers?

or is the point that the editors of The Stranger bucked the trend (see ECB's post below) and intentionally depressed their circulation numbers for that week, to honor a pop-icon Nell Carter?

or is it somesort of "glass house... living in... don't throw stones" kind of a thing... I sense a point, but without a caption that point is lost (on this slogger, any ways).

This proves that The Stranger has courage that other publications lack. Thank you so much for calling out the racism of Seattle Weekly, and all Seattle Weekly readers. It's hard to speak up sometimes, but Seattle Weekly is also antisemitic in their pro Rachel Corrie coverage. It is an insult to many of my people to have a woman who worked with a Palestinian terrorist group given such coverage.

Shoshana, please. You make me ashamed to be Jewish.

Interesting. If you stare at that dress pattern long enough, a 3-D image of Stokely Carmichael will appear...

I see it too, but I'm pretty sure the 3-D image is of Kwame Ture.

They are calling you names Shoshana, but they called Erica names too.

Seattle Weekly is racist and antisemitic, we all need to have the courage to speak up about this.

...And the Weekly's mother wears army boots....Chuck, have you no decency, sir?

Comte,

I see it too!

After a brief struggle Carmichael surrendered his mattress.

Oh, is this related to covergate? Cause honestly I don't see how. Soo, is this saying "Some of our best covers are of Black people?" vs "Are any of your covers done by artists of color?" I mean The Stranger went there, so have at it.

I mean it's Nell Carter. And? You want a cookie? Maybe you do get a cookie 'cause maybe there were a lot of Ain't Misbehavin'/Gimme a Break haters out there.

Jan 30 2003 : the last African-American woman to be depicted on the Stranger's cover?

Gimme a Break!

and for the record, i would love a cookie.

The Weekly is Racist and antisemitic. Erica and Charles had the courage to speak up about it. That is the point. The Stranger never choses covers based on race.
