Enter the Political Heavyweights

Posted by on May 30 at 15:44 PM

Postman has the scoop on President Bush’s upcoming visit to Washington State, intended to help out eastside Republican Congressman Dave Reichert.

Meanwhile, the head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Rahm Emanuel, is in town this evening for a Mercer Island fundraiser for Reichert’s opponent, Democrat Darcy Burner. (And tomorrow, Burner and Emanuel will be holding a press conference in Seattle on the topic of “retirement security.”)

The Democrats need to take 15 seats from Republicans in order to win control of the House of Representatives this fall, and clearly party leaders think this could be one of the races that tips the balance.

When is Cheney showing up for Darcy Burner's fundraiser, as he promised?

Or did the Vice President LIE when he promised - twice, at two events - to campaign for the Dem opponent of Reichert?

So, by my count, this is Bush's second visit to Washington State since being elected... wonder if this will be a public event... something like Clinton did at the Pikes Place Market when we has president?

Most likely not. Not that I care, but why don't more republicans publicly care? Never once have I heard anything from the wing-nuts about the continuing snub of Washington voters.

Is this the beginning of the end for Reichert? He needs a Bush appearance like he needs an underage sex scandal.

Sooooo, Eli, did you read Josh Feit's entry on the Democrats' lack of a strong, direct, engaging message for voters?

Yeah. I noticed that Josh doesn't have a suggested solution — just pessimism and a critique that we've heard before from a lot of other people.

If you're asking for my own take on this issue... Well, I'll try to do a post about it sometime soon.
