Last week, to deflate high Democratic expectations for the Eastside (Dems think they have a shot to pick up 4 to 6 suburban seats in the state house), GOP State Chair Diane Tebelius told me the Ds are misreading the trends. While Dems point out that: the Eastside went for Kerry in 2004; gave I-912, 2005's gas tax repeal, a thrashing; and have gone from zero to six seats in the Eastside 'burbs since 1998—Tebelius counters with some compelling examples herself: Dino Rossi carried the Eastside; GOP AG Rob McKenna carried the Eastside; and perhaps most compelling—she says Dave Reichert...

Did anyone catch KING5's RAW streaming video of his visit to Aberden? The TV crew was negligent in their knowledge that everything was being heard on the air as it happend. And someone either operating the camera or beside the camera and microphone noted Tom Cruise's Butt crack. The video camera followed the comment of Tom having a Plumber's butt and zoomed up close. I wonder if that's how professional these KING5 (BELO) folks are? I suppose that's just raw footage.

For the D's: 2004 ain't 2006, and the national R's are in free fall right now.

For the R's: The state R's are in much, much better shape than the national ones -- we don't have any Bushes or Cunninghams or Frists here. The Gov election got us the Gov but hurt the party terribly statewide. Phyrric victory?

Yah, that contested election in 2000 really hurt Bush in 2004. Guv'n'r Gee will have a record to run on next time, and if it's a good one the last election won't matter much.

Calling Issaquah et. al. the "East Side" is like saying the West begins at the far side of Boston Commons. It's one more mark of Puget Sound arrogance that convinces me we really need our own state on the Brown Side.

As a Spokane expat, Joel, I understand where you're coming from, but after living in Seattle for 17 years, it is obvious that Bellevue etc. will always be the "eastside", and anything over the pass is "eastern washington". Honestly, it isn't meant as the slight that everyone in E.WA thinks it is. It is just a reality.

Since when did you pass judgment on what does and does not constitute the Eastside, Josh? When such logisitic gerrymandering suits to support your points?

People live in Issaquah and Sammamish too, and that's just as much a part of the Eastside.
