Christian War on Fiction

Posted by on May 4 at 15:14 PM

You didn’t have to be Jesus to see this coming:

Christian activists are planning a boycott of the soon-to-be-released Da Vinci Code movie, which one influential pro-family group is calling “blasphemous.”

Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide.org and chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission, is asking Christians to sign a petition condemning the movie. The petition accuses Sony Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, director Ron Howard and actor Tom Hanks of supporting a film that is offensive to Christians.

The movie, according to Baehr, is “fraught with misconceptions and blatantly false claims about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the history of Christianity, and the Catholic Church.”

Note to fundies: The Da Vinci Code is FICTION. As Bible readers, surely you have a grasp on the concept.

huh...i thought the rap on the da vinci code was that it was anti-catholic. i thought the born again evanhooligans eat that vatican-hating shit up.

Chops is caught in the wrong century ... (1846? Gangs of New York?).

We fundaHallelujahians, nativists, & Papists all hang in the same 'hood, now. You have a problem with that?

cool, see you in belfast!

Know what else is fiction?

Most of the Bible.

Christians are bigots. Jews have never protested a book, and are open minded about books, plays, and movies.

If Christians ran the libraries, there'd be one book in them.

Josh, that is quite the broad brush. Not all Christians are bigots, nutjobs, haters, etc.

Christ's big message was "love everybody." Lots of Christians get that. True, lots don't, and those idiots seem to be the most vocal (or at least get the most press), but a statement like "Christians are bigots" is not only wrong, but in itself bigotted.

Some of them didn't even like the Exorcist so what gives.Big deal they've been hootn and hollern about everything hollywood.
even the Passion of Christ had an uproar.

I had planned to see DiVinci Code, but now that it's getting boycotted by Christians I will make sure and organize a whole group to go and see it.

Then maybe will just make it into a whole event. We will all send checks to NARAL and the ACLU, well going dancing at a gay club, and we will go to the Science musuem.

We will partake in all the things that Christians hate so much; supporting freedom of speech, access to birth control and a womans right to choose; promoting the gay 'lifestyle'; and love of science. Oh what fun this will be, I can't wait!

Belfast. And make it fast.

Wasn't that last century? Didn't Clinton the faith healer heal it with a miracle?

Waved his big Baptist Bible in the breeze, turned Gerry Adams into Jell-o or wine, got Protestant lions to lie (down) with Catholic lambs.
