Bible Verse of the Day

Posted by on May 23 at 16:06 PM

From Zechariah, verse five, chapters one through four, King James Version:

Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. And [the angel] said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits. Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth… I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

So don’t swear. Or steal. Or a ten-by-twenty cubit flying roll will enter your house and eat it. But what kind of roll? This kind? Or this kind? Or maybe this kind? His ways are indeed mysterious…

makes me hungry for sushi

you know a giant, rancid sushi roll would be quite disturbing ... especially if it started consuming my house.

You piqued my interest just enough to get me to look up an answer-- please, no more bible study for the rest of the year, okay?

"Roll." Hebrew "megillah," is a noun form of the verb which means to roll as rolling stones. Gilgal, which is derived from the same root, is so named because they rolled stones into a heap to memorialize the dry-land crossing of Jordan. (Joshua 4:19-21) Megillah, then, is the name given in Hebrew to a scroll which is rolled together when it is stored and unrolled to be read. The flying roll is unrolled, as is seen in the next verse.

That would be a great name for a bakery.

Burn the Torah and the bible all religion is stupid.

Shabbath 19:2
They may perform on the Sabbath all things that are needful for circumcision: excision, tearing, sucking [the wound], and putting thereon a bandage and cumin. If this had not been pounded up on the eve of the Sabbath a man may chew it with his teeth and then apply it.

Whatever, Buddy. Next time you need to assemble an easily controlled army of 2000 lb leg pressing bad asses, you'll be facing an impossible challenge without a religion on your side.

I just burned a copy of Dianetics. I'm damned sure it's pages aren't as suited for rolling joints as The Bible's are.

So there's that to consider also.

Hurm. And I always thought "megillah" was the name of a purple cartoon gorilla who lived in a pet store, and wore suspenders and a little bowler hat.

I hear he's stil for sale...

Next Krishna I see I'm going to get one of those books they hand out. Seems a lot more exciting than this Bible, Koran, and Torah bullsheat. Lets see, we'll have Blue gods with 6 arms that come back reincarnated and have multitudes of adventures(battling demons and what not, and tripped out wisdom to boot, I'll buy that for a dollar. Hari Krishnas where are you. Sorry for laughing at you and ignoring you. Give me some real entertaining religion to read. Shiva rocks. I'm gonna put a tattoo of her right on my back. Now thats freedom of religion for ya.

Why don't you quote some Scripture that's more applicable to this crowd? How about this one:

1 Corinthians 6:12-20

“Everything is permissible for me”-but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me”-but I will not be mastered by anything. “Food for the stomach and the stomach for the food”-but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said “The two will become one flesh”. But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in Spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

I don't know though, that might be a little too convicting for you all.
