Transcripts of United Airlines Flight 93

Posted by on April 12 at 10:58 AM

Even if you think you’ve seen all the raw, horrifying evidence from 9/11 (our government’s role aside), the transcripts from United Airlines flight 93 are still terribly unsettling (FYI—this PDF takes a while to load). Personally, I’m opposed to the death penalty, but I could see details like these pushing the jury to recommend it.

Via Reuters, Yahoo, and AP coverage of Zacarias Moussaoui’s trial.

Actually, I don't think this guy should get the death penalty IF he's thinking that that's gonna get him his 75 virgins or whatever that shit it. I say throw him in jail for life and make sure he lives a good, long time with nothing to read but back issues of People.

if they keep playing tapes, putting victims' families on the stand, and doing transcripts, it's just going to be appealled. prejudice, anyone? my main girl dahlia lithwick is doing some awesome coverage of the case at slate.com. she really gets into the whole "Moussaoui is crazy, but didn't really have as much to do with the attack as he claims" thing.

* It's going to be appealed anyway - that's just what happens.

* I am not a lawyer but isn't it a valid prosecution tactic to have the victim's family testify? This is murder writ large and wholesale after all.

it would be one thing if he had actually killed them. but he didn't. all he did was not tell the feds that the attacks were being planned. while this is not a good thing, it's absurd to suggest that he is therefore responsible for the attacks. how this equates to the death penalty, i'll never know. are we going to start executing people who knew that some guy was going to kill his wife?
